  1. The Gophers' roster, due to Motzko's recruiting philosophy, is not capable of competing in today's NCAA. Motzko's philosophy is to "sit and wait" on CHL players, intentionally not considering many of the top available players in the world. Can you imagine any competitive hockey person stating he won't recruit available good hockey players because they play in one of the best development leagues in the world? Bob also doesn't like the transfer portal, only dipping into it to find goaltenders. Once again. Can you imagine any competitive hockey person who won't recruit available players who are capable of improving your team? Bob also doesn't like to recruit highly talented players (1st/2nd round picks) because he is worried they may leave after a year or two. Can you imagine any competitive hockey person turning down the most talented players available? Motzko should have won the National Championship a few years ago and his best offensive players were Logan Cooley and Matthew Knies, who left early. Since then, he's decided to avoid the Cooley's and Knies of the world and look at where the program is.

Maybe the U of M needs to hire a GM to handle recruiting, the portal, and NIL? It seems that Motzko is over his head while everyone else in college hockey has adapted to recent changes.
