Tough to win on those east coast road trips in general – even if we weren’t missing our boys

I don’t know why my brain processed regulation losses as regular time losses.

  3. Thankfully an easter team can only come across Avs in the playoffs at the finals.

So a place in the finals confirmed!

It is mind boggling how these mid goailes seem to turn in to vezina trophy winners when playing the avs lol. There were some early saves that dude made last night b4 the game got outta hand that easily could’ve tipped the game in our favor. Oh and the note time goes on I think the more it’s evident how good of a defender Toews really is. He holds the fort down more than most realize and would easily be top defender for like half the teams in league easy

Stats only say so much, even if I’m thinking about them often. I’ve been entertaining the idea that the skill gaps between Eastern Conference teams are not very well represented by external metrics. They are still all NHL teams.

Which is to say, I suspect things are tighter in the East while there may be larger gaps in the West. Of course, it’s a biased take since I watch the teams we play more often… more often.

Familiarity also helps us beat teams we see more. Something about the stars having our number… being built to hurt us…

My feeling is that we have a lot of stars, but we have a deficit of leadership without those two. No one is captaining this ship; they are all pulling on their own instead of moving in sync in one direction. Nate is a superstar, but I think he may be too intense to lead? I know he doesn’t enjoy it. Just my impression. When Gabe or Towes is at the helm, they can let the stars just be stars. Right now we feel . . . messy and muddled and unmotivated.

I remember they had the stat up (I think the last time he came back from injury) and the record without Toews is not good at all.

Definite correlation in mind with these bigger losses happening while Toews and Landy are out. Better now than April… get healthy, gents

I’ve heard players talk about how the season is a grind and games during the middle of the season can be challenging to find motivation.

I wonder if these last two eastern roadtrips are indicative of that, especially as these are out of conference games with less impact on the standings, and they already have a sizable lead in the Central and West. They just haven’t looked as sharp or fast recently so maybe they’re just cruising until the Olympic break.

  10. Not worried at all about this team. Middle of the season doldrums, east cost road trip with games every other day. We could have just as easily scored 7 goals last night too but Dobeš played great. We will be fine

  11. I’m pretty sure this was discussed on air and in an article. The Eastern teams don’t play the Avs much so they bring all they got. And since the Avs aren’t playing for much, they might slack off. (Paraphrasing)
    Date they say, bored?

Recently there have been injuries. And the goal tending hasn’t been the lumberyard it was early in the season.

Personally I never expected the pace they were in to be sustainable. But the cushion that was built will allow the adversity in the middle games. So long as the peak has yet to be attained I feel good.

I don’t think the boys have peaked.

  12. Meh. Those Kane/Toews hawks teams back in the 2010s had big losing skids and slumps. I’m not tremendously worried about them. Get healthy and get back at it

Imagine if the power play was even 5% better. I bet there’s a couple more wins

I mean more relevant in my mind…. it’s they are 4-8 (including the game he went out) when landeskog got hurt. I think he means a lot more to the team than was realized. Not so much in scoring, but intangibles I’m guessing
