  1. Also some missed draft opportunities. If they took a guy like Jarvis or even Quinn instead of Holtz, taking Knies or Stankoven instead of Stillman, their winger depth would be looking a lot better.

  2. No way did they rush the rebuild. The rebuild has been going on since they went to the cup and still aren't there

  3. The Devils are stuck with the extremely overrated Hughes brother (Jack) and the one that is not as good as people thought he would be (Luke). I think Hischier is a keeper, but I think you could make an argument for them moving on from anyone else on that roster.

  4. Devils brass thought that they should be in the prime contender window right now. Couple of years back, it certainly seemed that way. Which is why Timo and Dougie signings were done when they were. Now the results look ugly but theoretically it should have worked out a little better than it has. They might not be elite but they are all decent players. It hurts the Devils alot that Jack Hughes never took that next step and Nico is looking more like a middle 6 C than a top line C.

  5. Let's see. Jacob Markstrom is a has been. Hischier and Jack Hughes are injury prone. Yes. it is poor management.

  6. We need to clone Lou Lamoniello's brain and place it inside of a young GM for the NJ Devils. We also need to do the same with a Jacque Lemaire and get us some kick ass coaching.

  7. Can you please make WHH available in podcast format as well? It would help a lot. Just, you know, the audio from the videos as podcasts. Thank you.

  8. Take solace in the suffering us ranger fans are enduring across the river , we have extra dumpsters if you want to have a fire with us.

  9. The answer is contracts. Palat, Tatar, Meier, Luke Hughes, Dawson Mercer. Every single one of those contracts is shocking and abysmal. We are completely hamstrung for our future. Those contracts were not given based off merit or performance FOR THE DEVILS. They were given on some whim by a GM who doesn't know sports let alone hockey.

  10. This team sucked for a solid decade before they had that breakout season in '22-23. It's fair to say Fitzgerald botched the process of moving from an exciting young team to a perennial contender, but saying they "rushed" the rebuild is a joke. If anything, part of Fitz's problem was that he was too patient with certain guys developing (Mercer being the prime example).

  11. Devils were still a good to great team during the first half of 23-24. I dont know where this idea that they "Rushed" their rebuild came from?

They were rebuilding basically for a second time after 2019 with Jack, then continued rebuilding until breaking out in 22-23. The biggest issue was a couple of factors.

The Injuries in 23-24 hampering progress.

Fitzgerald's complete lack of understanding of what made the Devils so good in the first place, thinking that we NEEDED to be a team like Florida to win. When we lost the canes series in 22-23 due to going through a grueling 7 game series and not having competent goal tending.

Fitz botched a lot of things. Drafting, free agent signings after 22-23, and not grabbing a competent goalie during 23-24.

Jack's injury issues aside (See Jack Eichel) the team regressed immensely because we don't have good puck movers and the system we have in place doesnt benefit a team full of speedy, skilled forwards and needs more puck moving defensemen

  12. Keefe is just a mediocre coach. Once he's gone, as long as someone decent is hired they'll be good again.

  13. Hughes brothers are soft, undersized, overrated and not players to build around. That goes for all 3 of em.
