Doesn't make a difference who the Rangers get in the draft. Until they learn how to develop young talent, they are going nowhere.
The worst organization in the history of sports at developing young talent wants a high draft pick? That’s a joke. As a LaFrenierre fan I hope for his sake he gets traded from this shit show of an organization. He and Perrault and every other young prospect in their system should hope they get traded because the Rangers are the organization where hope dies
Nobody has their game improve after being drafted by the Rangers. Schneider will be the next guy who showed early promise but was mismanaged by coaches and not helped to improve by Player Development.
Rangers are in this predicament because Gorton drafted guys like Andersson & Kravtsov(couldn't believe that one!) & then Drury traded multiple 1sts & 2nds for rentals. So your farm team sucks & development is better when your farm team is strong. Even this year they let some vets go in Hartford which weakened the team, like Groulx & Belzile. You need good vets on your AHL team for development purposes to play with & tutor prospects. Three 1st rounders(good ones) would go a long way to building a future competitive team. I don't typically like smaller defensemen, but I do like this guy Xavier Villeneuve from the Q. He's pretty slick!
Given the sorry history of draft and development here, NOTHING good is guaranteed.
We had a guy in the office whose choice of lemon cars was so bad that I urged people looking for a new car to bring him along when choices narrowed down to 2…ask him his pick…and then buy the other one….
And that's how I feel about Rangers drafting.
Stenberg and McKenna don't need development for all the negative nancies here
They're both considered franchise players – they're both being compared to celebrini. Both of them are wingers and have elite hockey IQ and passing abilities.
If rangers finish where they are right now – good shot they land McKenna. As of right now because Vancouver's last – most scouts have Stenberg being drafted 1st overall. (Probably because he's Swedish and the Canucks are full of Swedes. He's also a winger)
This is like the McDavid draft when Eichel was taken second overall. It's like that draft. If the rangers finish where they are right now (31st) and land one of those two players – they're expected to immediately light the league up. This isn't a lafrienere situation – these two players are better. Lafrienere was never considered a franchise player.
after the 1st letter they didnt draft well. several top picks that were mostly busts, others they never developed properly. the big problem is drury is not the one to do the job. he is incompetent, hes traded picks for rentals and filled the team with "plumbers", journeymen with limited talent. he has no idea of how to handle the salary cap, hes had enough time! with trades to be made, the draft, etc., i feel drury will set the organization back for many years….
The Rangers are bad due to a few different factors. As mentioned first their round picks Kratzov and Anderson were complete busts, Kakko another first round, picked no 2 has just mediocre. The next problem is that the team is getting old , slow has passive players. too many of the good young players has been traded away for little in return. The solution draft better and develop better. Its going to be while before we see a good Rangers team again,
