Je sais que cela a été une période difficile depuis que Landy a été blessé, mais est-ce que quelqu’un d’autre a de sérieuses inquiétudes à propos de Cale Makar pendant cette période ? Il ne me ressemble tout simplement pas.

Serious concern about what? He looks fine and significantly better last night with Toews in the lineup.

  2. Necroromicon

Short answer no, just got his D partner back, still has great movement, smart passes, just wish he would stop missing the net.

  3. Burgundyburnsy

I miss his point shots going in from the blue line on the PP. Hasn’t been happening as often but he’s still Cale and unreal everywhere else

  4. awesomesque

He’s definitely been in a bit of a funk offensively, but he’s had quiet stretches before! Still looks great out there. I’m much more worried about the PP

Look at it from his perspective. You work your entire life to reach the peak of your potential. You actually are on track to be an HOFer. You’re fabulously wealthy which allows you to start a new life and have a career another country far away from where you grew up. And you figure you’ll never have to see your jerk little brother again. And then, out of nowhere…

  6. Particular_Spirit_75

He’s had to play more defensively with Toews out. Toews locking it down on D allows Makar to do Makar stuff.

Small funk for sure as it comes to shooting and playmaking I’d agree. Mostly, and It’s been said a lot, but with Toews out he was not playing his usual game and having to be a lot more defensive minded. With 7 back I think his confidence gets boosted a lot more and he can play his more usual aggressive game.

Avs fans are so spoiled sometimes. We have a generational d-man who has won multiple Norris trophies, a Calder trophy and a Conn Smythe, on top of having one of the 3 best forwards in the world. The team hit a bit of a skid but is still tops in the league. Let’s get through the Olympics with everyone coming back healthy and ready to make a run at the SC.

  9. ShockAndBurn

He has stretches like this every year, this one has been a bit longer but his D partner has been out and the condensed schedule is rough. He’ll be a okay

I’m a Ducks fan and Leo Carlson went from a top 3 scorer in the league to looking like a turd. Turns out he was really hurt and needed real time off. Don’t underestimate the effect of an injury that we have no idea about.

A little concern but not because of the last few games. Going back to the Dallas series at the end of last season, the PP has been bad, and Cale seems to be missing the net a lot.

  12. Odd_Philosopher1712

Am i concerned that he doesnt look the same without toews? I expected it.

I do not think he is playing injured like last year.

Tbf he also scored 30 goals last year.

I just think hes a bit snakebit this year. His analytics are nasty just not scoring absurd numbers of goals

  13. TheRealNuzaq

He plays well, needs a bit of puck luck is all

  14. Nah. Ask Jon Cooper. Cale has set the bar so damn high, that even when he’s merely good, he looks average to Avs fans. The rest of the league knows . . .

  15. lefluer124

He sucks on the power play but so does everyone else. He missed Teows more than people would admit.

Shots from the point are generally a low percentage chance. Most of the time you are looking for a tip, screen, or rebound. Every player will experience this at some point, so the problem was not Cale. We lost Landy and Toews at the same time and they are both net front presences on offense. Toews is also his relief valve on defense.

I also imagine most of these players that are in the Olympics had their priorities split between team prep and Olympics prep. The Olympics only happen every 4 years, and NHL rulings have made this once in a lifetime for some players. Based on Mack’s performance lately I would say he is more focused on the Olympics and I dont even blame him.

Probably need wrist surgery in the offseason

  18. Echrocks2

No. I’m not worried about the best dman in the world.

  19. TacoWallace

I have no concerns. He’s playing amazing D, skating well with the puck, making great zone exits, still throwing the hits every now and then and playing 25 minutes a night.

He’ll be better with 7 next to him, they all make each other better. Last night he was able to trust Toews with the puck when we wouldn’t have with Malinski. He also looked more aggressive in the O zone.

He did get caught a few times last night leaving the zone but they all did. SJ is young and FAST.

  20. BIGDINNER_

Nah not really. He’s still a one man breakout. He’s still exceptional on D, even in a down few weeks, god forbid he’s human. All I expect from a D-man is damage control. We know other teams are going to score, it’s what you limit. He hasn’t had the best defensive few weeks and has still been solid. Whole team has struggled. He’ll be fine.

  21. HalfInchHollow

    No.

His D partner has been out. Toews allows Cale to do half of what he does.

  22. Exciting_Fox2457

Couldn’t you say that about 80% of the team this stretch?

  23. fthflyer

No, how spoiled are we though. Cale looks slightly less than god-like out there and everyone is wondering what’s wrong

  24. applesnutz

Why do people love to look for negative things? Enjoy us having the best team in the NHL.

  25. Rarecandy31

Ah it’s time for these posts huh? Gonna be a long Olympic break.

  26. totosmaster

Late to the party in this thread.

During his absence, I believe we might have seen how essential Devon Toews is to Cale Makar and the Avalanche. Same with Landy and the team – but we knew about that one.

  27. canucklehead272

His Power Play work has been an abomination. That part is a legitimate concern.

  28. blurplerain

No, He’s having to literally cover the job done by the number two guy on the top defensive pairing in the league. That’s the only reason his production is down and that he doesn’t look like himself. He can’t cheat or take risks the way he could before and do those Cale Makar things that only Kale Makar can do, because he has to be Cale Makar and at least one-half of Devon Toews at the same time.

  29. I seriously think the last month the entire team has taken their foot off the gas in order to get to the Olympics healthy. They had the scares with Landy and Toews and realized they have a big enough cushion to just coast into the Olympics. You will see Cale and Mack at full force in Milan, don’t you worry!
