The Olympic break sucks.
💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
Gibson: Above, eventually. His first two months were objectively brutal. Since then, he's been Vezina worthy. Had he played those two months like he did in December and January, I don't think it would be much competition to be the front runner for Vezina. Gonna be hard to beat out Vasilevskiy as it is. Hopefully Gibson keeps this level of play up. I didn't really know what to expect going into the year. I guess I expected better goaltending than last year, which we've gotten, and I think he's been even better than that.
Larkin: Below. If it wasn't for the PP, he'd be failing. He has to fighting an injury right? He's been pretty bad 5 on 5 this season. He hasn't looked like Dylan Larkin. It feels like he's not putting the effort in, which could be because of some physical ailment, but I barely notice him 5 on 5. Maybe by the numbers he's meeting, but something just doesn't feel right. When we need a goal, it's been JVR or DeBrincat putting it in, while Larkin's been quiet. If it wasn't for the first half, he might be in failing.
Raymond: Below. This below is very different for me than the Larkin below. Larkin's below is because I don't feel like he's performing. Raymond's is because I had VERY high expectations. It boggles my mind why he doesn't shoot more with the shot he has. I expected a superstar breakout season to put him in the Marner level. He hasn't been bad, but he hasn't met my lofty expectations.
Edvinsson: Above. He's been very good defensively. I'd like to see his offense pick up just a tick more. Early on, he was taking some costly penalties with regularity, so that was a bit disappointing and keeps him from the A&B for me, but this is what, his second full season? I expected him to be a mid tier 2LD, but he's been a mid tier 1LD playing with an elite tier partner. By mid tier I mean if you ranked all the 1LD's in the league, he's probably in the middle of that group. He's showing he's on his way to entering that elite tier in the next few seasons.
Johansson: Meeting. I didn't have too high of expectations for him. He's not fantastic, but he's fine as a 3rd pair guy I guess. Wouldn't mind an upgrade at the position. I'll be honest, I haven't seen much in him, and as such, didn't have very high expectations for him at all.
Compher: Meeting. He's not good, and I didn't expect him to be. I expected him to be a 4th line center that contributes little to the offense, and that's what he is. Decent on the PK though.
Kasper: Failing. He seems to be on a bit of an upswing, but not moving the needle yet. I expected him to be a solid 2C. Honestly, and maybe my expectations were way too high, but I thought he'd be flirting with 60 points. He's looking like he could use time in GR. Copp has had to step up because Marco has failed to live up to expectations so far. I'm not ready to give up on him and say he's a bust, but JJ Peterka has 38 points to Kasper's 13. Maybe should've done that swap last season. I'm rooting for him, and I really hope he can put it together after the break. He just needs to put that part of the season out of his mind, focus on what he needs to do to get better, and be a solid contributer the rest of the season. If he could be above half a point a game for the rest of the season, that would go a long way to restoring my faith in him.
wat has been different for gibby and the redwings defense there not trying to be a second or third goalie that blocks the goalies vision for the daam puck this season like they were doing last year?! 🤷♂️💪LGRW💪🤷♂️👍
To me, Larkin and Raymond are both, well the whole 1st line, below expectation b/c of their 5v5 ice time. Can't count on PP during playoffs, and if that is their strong points, it is their weakness. Both players, IMHO, have not been the same since the 4-Nations games last year.
Its criminal that Russia doesn't get to compete. Even during the cold war, 1980, the Soviets had invaded Afghanistan the year prior but were still able to compete in the olympics.
I looked up roster projections and noticed there arent a lot of elite centers coming out of Russia…Old man Malkin tops the center depth chart 😮
Wingers and goaltending would have to carry them.
USA has best defense by far, looking like the favorite 🏅
what you are saying is that our 1st line ranks in the bottom half of the league.. We need better players
Larkin 29 it's first 26 +10, 22pts the next 32 -2. Id say underperformed but it's meet because this happens every year with him. If Larkin doesn't score he's a minus player, he brings the team down and his linemates down when he plays like this. Razor is exceeds because he's been effective on 2 different lines in spite of an easy season shoulder injury, which tells me he's not the problem on the first line, and honestly neither is the other wing. Larkin needs to go if this team doesn't make the playoffs this year, thats how bad he's been the last 2 years post mid season break.
Al Jo is doing well in that he is consistently being paired with the worst of our D core 🫡
Here's why Simon belongs where he is and not Above and Beyond like Mo. Simon did have a very bad stretch in November where he was playing some of his worst hockey and even said it in interviews. He took some REALLY bad penalties and kept taking them and they hurt us. He's been great for the most part but he went through his struggles too.
It matters who you play with. Larks is a very good center. Would he be the best #2 in the league if we have a superstar #1.
