    I understand the value of making the move, but at what point does it become a “rebuild” from a re-tool? Where is the distinction? Is it a re-tool in name only?

    Red Wings and Mammoth have good prospect pools. 

    Islanders can fuck off.

    When we talk about re-tooling, i don’t really get it. There are some players that are compatible with a stanley cup winning team; Trocheck appears to be one of them.

    Guys like Panarin i can see as he tends to slow down in the playoffs, but why are we selling guys on reasonable contracts that are useful in the post-season?

    It’s gunna be the Wild who don’t have great prospects at all and will probably have late draft pick.

    Wild, Red Wings & Mammoth are probably the 3 best options from an NYR perspective in terms of young players/prospects.

    Wild:
    I don’t see them parting with Yurov as he is now an established member of their group, and being a contender, you don’t want to trade out contributing players for your playoff run.

    They have a number of decent young players in both attack and defence. The hardest part is gauging what Yzerman would give up in a trade as he has been very reserved since joining them.

    Axel Sandin-Pellikka (Unlikely)

    Mammoth:
    Similar to the Red Wings, they have been out of the playoffs for a while but they are not afraid to make bigger moves. Could potentially open to making a splash for a playoff run and to cement their C2 position for the next few years.

    *I am only listing potential return options that NYR could target, I am NOT saying these will be the returns for a trade for Trocheck.

    Much as I’d hate sending the Canes what is likely their missing piece, they have a decent prospect pool. Either of Nikishin or Nadeau would be a huge get.

    I think if you move Trocheck to the Wild, you insist on Yurov. Maybe you throw in some filler to make it more palatable for Guerin, but their time to go all in is now, you have the best center on the market, his contract is not expiring, and you have all the leverage.
