Il y avait autre chose d’évident après la victoire de jeudi : à quel point les coéquipiers de Jack Hughes étaient heureux pour lui.

Dans les jours qui ont précédé les Jeux olympiques, Hughes a été étroitement surveillé par les médias nationaux et locaux du New Jersey pour avoir raté les trois derniers matchs avant les Jeux olympiques en raison d’une élongation à l’aine. C’était peint comme s’il ne mettait pas son équipe, en train de sombrer au classement, devant son pays.

Juste ou pas, Hughes a été largement blâmé dans le New Jersey pour la pire tournure de la saison des Devils après avoir remporté neuf des 10 premiers matchs de la saison, car la chute a réellement commencé pendant les six semaines où il était hors de l’alignement après s’être coupé la main accidentellement lors d’un dîner d’équipe. Ajoutez à cela les derniers matchs manqués et certains ont commencé à critiquer le joueur super talentueux.

Ces flammes se sont vraiment allumées lorsque Mike Rupp, un initié de la LNH et ancien ailier des Devils, a publiquement remis en question l’engagement de Hughes envers les Devils pour ne pas avoir joué ces derniers matchs avant la pause et l’a comparé à l’olympien canadien Brad Marchand qui a disputé les cinq derniers matchs de la Floride, y compris le but vainqueur en prolongation au Minnesota le 24 janvier lors d’un retour surprise dans son alignement.

Comme l’un des coéquipiers et bons amis de Hughes l’a dit à The Athletic après la victoire de jeudi : « Jack a pris beaucoup de problèmes ces derniers temps, alors peut-être que les gens se souviendront à quel point il est bon et à quel point il veut simplement gagner, ici et avec les Devils.

    The people that call for Jack’s head, would absolutely be inconsolable if he demanded a trade. We need to build around Jack not use him to rebuild.

    Regardless, I don’t like Russo implying that Jack’s injuries have derailed our season. We played like shit even after he came back.

    Good quote from the anonymous USA player. People can pile on Jack for a lot of reasons, but you can’t tell me he doesn’t care deeply about winning.

    The only thing that’s for certain is that Jack wants to play with his brothers. Quinn’s contract ends next year so the Devils have a better chance of getting him then unless they pull off something wild (no pun intended) before the trade deadline.

    Dude had a freak injury and came back as soon as he could. I just cant stand the media. The doom and gloomers are fans who throughout the day get the media shoved down their throats and decide to listen rather than make their own decisions.

    I’m so tired of reading things by this guy in a clear biased attempt to get the Hughes to Minnesota campaign going strong. What makes it worse is our own hack “beat” writers encouraging the bullshit with their click bait articles bashing Jack as well as our own “fans” adding fuel to the fire. It seems people won’t be happy until the team is in full blown rebuild again.

    Just read the whole story and it comes across as objective reporting on the situation, not a reporter with agenda. He’d be missing a critical piece of he didn’t acknowledge the main narrative of his NJD season. Maybe positioned slightly in a way to drive clicks but it’s all facts material to the story

    I think Jack is gone just a question of when. Will be a disaster for the franchise when he goes.

    I think the failure to trade for Quinn combined with missing the playoffs this year will prove to be the breaking point.
