IIRC, Ranty had TWO hat tricks last year in the playoffs and the Roberson Olympic team snub makes him hungry. Heiskanen was drafted ahead of Makar in the 2017 draft (3rd and 4th) and Oettinger was the number one North American goalie that same draft (26th overall) and lest we forget, Necas was 12th overall. So, an Avs vs DAL playoff series means a lot to players from both teams, perhaps more than usual. There's a lot at stake for players on both teams.
I don't think the Stars are doing it this year. I won't even be that surprised if they get out in Round 1. I do think a cup is still on the near horizon for them, but who knows. Honestly, they're such a fun regular season team to watch that I don't really mind if they keep everything in tact and run it back repeatedly with varying but limited playoff success till all the core has to retire.
They don't have a chance until Jaime Benn retires.
Reality says its unlikely but I would give anything to see Jamie Benn hoist the cup. Would instantly melt into a puddle of tears
I’ll be glad if we make it past the first round. I’m not feeling this year, and yet it still wouldn’t shock me if they go on a run. Just an odd team that I still love dearly.

The playoff format has been brutal for the Stars the last 3 years ( all leading to making it to the conference finals ….. then losing ). The absolute wars they have had to go through just to get to the finals has left them battered and bruised and they simply run out of gas . 1-8 seeding is the ONLY way to run the playoffs .
Dallas cannot drop out of the playoffs without playing both goalies. That's the key for me. I can see situation where they lose every second game without giving DeSmith any games.
Long ago I said NO WAY their defence is not good enough and they don't play that well in their own end too much goofing around.Sometimes the young D surprise me with a mind boggling great play but this is seldom.I can't stand the Russian D Lyabushkin I feel is a really bad but gets too much ice time.Offensiveluy it is the same 5 guys over and over and imo Duchene is washed up he plays bad hockey so a severe lack of depth and also imo Oettiger is not that good in spite of goalies solely relying on the team he is imo sub par.
I trust the Stars' talent. I don't trust their clutch factor. At the exact moment I start thinking they could actually win it all, they nosedive.

The only thing the Stars are lacking is the mental and phisical attitude to NOT QUIT when everything is on the line and they have to find a way to win, and they are not phisical enough to wear down their opponents on a consistant basis. You can't win Cups without smashing the will out of your opponents.

Job well done as always. As a DFW native, I knew nothing about hockey until the Stars came to town and I've dropped Da'Boys and Mavs ever since. [exception for Dirks run] The problem is the Central is such a grind in the playoffs it's almost unfair for any of the three. We're hopeing the Gulutzan's vision grows closer to the playoffs and pay's dividends. So to answere the question at hand, YES they will gel and get it done.
