  1. Missing the playoffs for the second time. Interesting fact, when they lost to Columbus it was in a play in round (qualifying round) . So technically they missed the playoffs that year.

  2. I can't believe they haven't fired the coach.Any other team would fire the coach? It's obvious that his system does not work with these players.Same players way worse result , fire the coach

  3. Not completely out of the playoff picture but they’re close? Buddy, a week or two after the break they could be in a playoff spot already lol

  4. The Leafs went "all in" last year and they missed. Now is the inevitable decline after spending on the present and not having a future. Expect the decline to continue.
You forgot to mention the large number of NMC or NTC contracts that hamper the ability of the team to accomplish ground shifting trades. Tanev was always going to spend a lot of time on Robidas Island so his contract is not the worst.

  5. You cannot take a team like the Leafs, who have played a skilled game for almost a decade, and have players that play that way, then over night try and turn it into the bay street bullies, with the addition of a couple of B rate players.
The GM and the coach should be fired for making a disaster of the team, driving Marner away, for basically nothing, and making the Leafs the laughing stock of the league.

  6. Brad Treliving may end up being one of the worst GM's in modern NHL history. He F'd up the Flames now he's doing it with the Leafs.

  7. At this point, any Leafs fan who isn't banging the table to trade Matthews and start over is kidding themselves. I've never seen a player since Dubois in Columbus that has that abyssmal level of compete. He doesn't care, he just wants his paycheck and to be left alone. You will never win with a guy like that as your captain.

  8. When all of the people who have seen a team win their last Stanley Cup now all qualify for AARP. or whatever its Canadian equivalent is..it's been awhile since your team won a Stanley Cup

  9. Shanahan brought the organization back to a standard it wasnt held to in a long time and repaired many relationships with former players that were not on good terms with the Toronto Maple Leafs…
He brought a lot of change to the organization, and then he got scared and didnt want to change anything when cleary something wasn't working with the core. When he fired Dubas (who was likely going to trade Marner) he set the organization back decades because as great as Nic Roy is, he's an absolutely embarrassing return for Marner that Treliving was only able to get by threatening a tampering investigation.

  10. The scariest part about being a Leafs fan is the management isnt completely out on this team and thinks that the reason they are in this is because they are unlucky. Not because they dont control play or the puck…

  11. Not trading McMann would be so on brand for the Leafs. Why try to recoup assets when you can keep the team together with an aging forward who's main skill is their speed. It's definitely not like guys get slower as they age, right?

  12. This team needs to find a coach to replace Berube with because the Leafs do not control play under his system. Brad Treliving also should sell off pending UFA's, and potentially OEL if someone will buy high on him. Leafs last year didnt even look good, I think many Leafs fans looked past it because they just cared about the end result. Winning the division was great but I can't see how this coach keeps his job past this year & if Treliving doesnt make any trades he can go as well. Kent Hughes doesnt have anyone calling for his head because he's acting like a capable GM. It's not hard to understand.

  13. Think Toronto reported players missing time over 40 times in 50 games. Simon Benoit who's be described at the perfect 6th/7th D-man is fourth on the team's blueline for ice-time. McDavid has played 1340 minutes, Nylander? 741. The Leafs have been an unhealthy hockey club, but yes can take criticism because they've run the cupboard bare and are not able to replace them like say Tampa Bay has.

  14. You would be crazy to hate Kent Hughes since he turn the Canadians from a joke of a franchise for 20 years no one give a shit about the 2000's and 2010's 8th in rankings in the east Canadians lol to a respectable team with clear direction! They now dangerous and will be for years to come…

  15. Growing up a Habs fan made the failures of the Leafs and the tribulations of their fans a balm for when the Cup didn't end up at the Forum. After the 1993 surprise Cup, I decided I no longer worried about who would win the Cup, provided it wasn't the Leafs. There was about a ten year period where my annual book buying trip to Portland was almost entirely financed from fleecing over-eager Leafs fans during their annual playoff failure. The absolute best year was 1994, when for some reason the Leafs and CBC were already worrying about who they'd play in the Final because they couldn't conceive that they would lost to the Canucks, but every playoff collapse was its own reward. I haven't made any wagers with Leafs fans in a long time, most of the ones I knew finally gave up after decades of abject failure, but there are plenty still out there. I prefer it when the Leafs make the playoffs because it is the shattered hopes that are the most entertaining, and the most amusing moments are when they lose in the seventh game.

  16. The Toronto Maple Leafs franchise hasn't played a single game, much less a series in the Stanley Cup FINALS since 1967. They hold the current record of ALL franchises with the longest draught NOT playing in the FINALS – 59 years.

  17. Well, we lose Marner and we lose the playoffs. Marner has assisted on 50% of all Matthews' goals over the past three seasons, or, 81% of all of Matthew's career goals. Matthews has 26 goals this year. Too bad he wasn't paid based on goals. Then, the Leafs could pay the third line players who deserve more than what they are earning.

  18. As an anti-Leaf fan since 1973, and a sports bettor, I view sports teams as either heading toward a championship or a rebuild. Here in southern Ontario, being fed a steady diet of Maple Leaf Kool-Aid, I look forward to the inevitable crash. Start the countdown to Matthews opting to follow Marner, and leaving when his contract expires. Sweet!

  19. This makes me happy, Matthews is playing like he’s 40 yrs old and not in his prime @ 28 yrs old… When your stars don’t show up, it’s hard to win NHL games, imo..

  20. Fun fact: only 7 members of the 1967 leafs are still alive. I would bet they all pass away before the leafs even get to another stanley cup finals.

  21. As a leafs fan our top players like Matthews Willy and jt have not showed up this year and we need a right shot defenceman someone who got a good shot from the point and our defensive players need to be better

  22. To all those fans who just couldn't tolerate keeping a soft playmaking winger…. and had no replacement for him ready? …. It wasn't enough to be one of the best teams in the NHL with a fantastic style of play; no you had to win the cup or bust….. well, you blew it up good, real good.

  23. Hope springs eternal,(post Olympic break and ground hog day, provides the pre spring initiation) if in the six games up to the trade deadline they put up good results especially against tb and fla they can still give it a go at making the post season. THG isn't suggesting a down load deadline wise unlike dangle. The buds have to grit their teeth and believe their western Canada wasn't an anamoly and present their best face ahead.

  24. They shouldn’t have made the playoffs last year either. Stellar goal tending and an awesome two way player in Marner helped. We’ve got neither of those this year. Nylander needs to go. GM shouldn’t have been hired in the first place.

  25. I don't think so. If Nylander can be injury free and they allow him 22-23 min instead of 18-19 min then its on. As long as #44 steps up.
OEL is the star on the backend.

  26. I really really hope the so called "core 4" lay awake at night at realize how much of a chance they had an squandered it again and again for 9 years. I hate being born a leaf fan.

  27. People expect you can change a few things an get instant success. Rarely happens that way unless your problem was small to begin with. Toronto has changed gears, trying to go from a strong offensive team to a defensive hard working team. I'm not a hockey pro, but from a management point of view the Leafs have changed so much, the best thing to do now is give it time. Let it bake. I wonder if Toronto will do the right thing an keep working out the bugs or if they conform to social pressure and start firing people. It will be interesting to see what they will do.
