It hurts losing Minten and a 1st for Carlo. Minten has played 58 games for Boston this year. He has 14 goals and 29 points and is a +18. That was a terrible trade even if it was just Minten, but losing the first on top that makes it even worse. The Leaf's "deadline deals" for the past 5 years have almost all been busts.

Mathews trade is the only one which would start a rebuild with picks and prospects. You do not trade the support cast and get much back. Last year sunk the Leafs with the over payment on trading 2026/2027 1st and two young prospects. We cannot even tank any more. Surely getting the picks back should be the trade deadline deal than tank. I am sure Boston would want Mathews. Big center they would desperately want.
