For everyone confused, the goalie is only entitled to the crease and space above it. If a goalie reaches out of the crease and his glove gets bumped by a player attempting to tip the puck, the player is entitled to that space, not the goalie.

Department of Panther Safety isn’t involved on goal challenges it appears 👀

I mean his stick is not in the crease, players are also entitled to their areas of the ice.

I was watching the Sabres/MSG feed and they explained it really well why it wasn’t goalie interference. The offensive player has the same right to the puck as the goalie does OUTSIDE the crease. INSIDE the crease is the Goalie’s safety net. But The second the goalie reaches outside that magical blue semi-circle, it’s 50/50. Now that doesn’t mean a player can just intentionally swat away the goalie’s hand/arm/glove/blocker/stick etc but he can make contact if he’s trying for the puck.
Personally I believe that if a goalie leaves the crease in anyway, he’s another player. Same in football, if a QB leaves the pocket AND crosses the LOS and becomes a runner…he’s a football player and should be treated as such.

69.4 Contact Outside the Goal Crease -If an attacking player initiates any contact with a goalkeeper, other than incidental contact, while the goalkeeper is outside his goal crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.
A goalkeeper is not « fair game » just because he is outside the goal crease. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. However, incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player

Those Announcers are jerks. Keeper extended his glove into the stick instead of tracking the puck. Sabers player was moving his body and stick away from the crease, and was standing outside the crease. Its a good goal, IMO.
Roguemutantbrain
I love that this is also a defensive defenseman going for a tip on a fourth liners shot from the point

The Sabres will have to wait at least one more game before their reaching their milestone of one million goals disallowed by challenges in a single season

his glove was way into the white paint…if it was in the blue a different story
SparkyWilder
Team Canada in the world Juniors this year lost a similar challenge to this where the opposing player actually hit the goalies glove shut to let the puck go by.
The goalies glove was out of the crease so its fair game.
Anyways, seeing the panthers loose is always fun though.
pforsbergfan9
The glove comes out of the crease and makes contact with a stick. That’s not goalie interference. This one the refs got right.
Wingnut8888
Those officials also blew a late icing call. Idiotic!

For a panthers who are fighting for a playoff spot, this is a good challenge
If they lose, they are down and can kill the pp,
If they win, they are tied and keep fighting.
If they had more of a guarantee of a playoff spot, do not challenge,
kongofcbus
Is the commentary from the Panthers crew? Sure seems like it. Goalie was so far out for the crease.

I agree.
Hes out of the blue, His stick isnt flicking away at the glove. its his glove, flicking at the stick.
There is no motion of the players stick, moving TOWARDS the glove. Its the other way around.

wtf is that flash going on. A photographer or goal cam? Either way I feel like that flash right as the puck is flying at me would bother me more than my dman not doing his job.

Brock Nelson had a goal taken away because the goalie’s glove was touched on a tip, but it was pretty close to the edge of the crease. Hard to argue. This isn’t, this is clearly outside the crease. Good call
seacon65
Right call was made.
Rockeye7
Panthers never lost the call. There was no interference. Goalie is in crease until his arm extended beyond the crease to play the puck. There was incidental contact with the Sabres players stick. But nothing prevented the goalies glove from playing the puck.
DirtDevil1337
commentator at the end « oh! » lol he wasn’t happy.
