Helley is the best regular season American goalie of all time.
Quick is the best playoff American goalie of all time.
His career wasn’t long enough either, but shoutout Tim Thomas. Iykyk.
Love seeing UMass Amherst’s Quick vs. UMass Lowell’s Hellebuyck
What’s GSAA? And why is quick in the negatives, while everyone else is way higher
I’m always shocked when people have nostalgia for Mike Richter. Like he was average at best. Good for him for the success he did have, but he wasn’t the guy that people were saying, « Don’t worry, Mike is in net, we got this »
Argument for best American goalie and a cup away from cementing that
Thank you
The longevity of Vanbiesbrouk is incredible
Tim Thomas gets no respect. Dudes a chud but he was a fucking brick wall when it mattered most.
Tim T?
Now imagine if Winnipeg had a serious defense in front for Hellebuyck instead of him bailing them out for 60 games a season year in and year out
Frank Brimsek erasure.
Barrasso?
His average stats will even out with the rest of them as he ages. He’s not gonna put up a .917 when he’s 38
It’s hard to compare players across eras, especially if the goalies spent any time of their careers in the late 80s or early 90s when scoring was way higher.
Helly might be the most talented american goalie of all time, but to compare their relative « greatness » amongst their own peers we need stats like WAR that take into account what era they played in.
I can’t get him above quick without a massive playoff run if not a cup
What Richter did in the 1996 Hockey World Cup exceeds Hellebuyck Olympic performance. It was a best of three and the US lost the first game in Philly and had to win two in Montreal. Canada had Gretzky and Lemieux.
It is just not people outside of Canada was aware of it going on.
Quick has 3 championships though?
Tom Barrasso should be on the list instead of Beezer.
He’ll have to have at least one good playoff run to contend for best ever. So far he’s been awful, not even average.
If Nathan MacKinnon buries it in that open net we aren’t even making this comparison yet.
People are gonna bitch and complain and bring up his playoffs but Helle has won more series than he’s lost for them.
I thought quick has 3 championships?
If your list excludes Tom Barrasso then it’s bunk
