Trade #1 = Auston Matthews, #2 = William Nylander, #3 = Morgan Reilly, #4 = Max Domi, #5 = Steven Lorentz, #6 = Roy, #7 = Calle Jarnkrok, #8 = Matias Macelli, #9 = Nick Robertson. The remainder with what you get would be a step in the right direction. Make John Tavares the Captain again and get some young talent in and DEVLOP them. Boston did it without gutting it to the studs… Should have canned Treliving at the start of the year with someone who KNOWS HOCKEY, niot flashy business talk (word salad).
theyre not going to plan for 3-5 years. they have only 2 more years of matthews and the management/coach job is at risk. they even said theyre going to give berube a chance providing him with the right players. dont expect too much selling, and be happy theyre going to try to be contenders again next year.
Can’t understand how Boston can make a couple small changes and bingo right back in the mix, year after year after…. Leafs fan for over 50 years laughed at my cousin when he was cheering for Pittsburg. How many cups did his team get since. If the NHL gets another Canadian team like Quebec Nordiques and I’m outta this crap train
They should completely rebuild starting with Matthews.
Blah, blah, blah. Many teams have come back without stripping it to the studs. I think too many teams out there would not give away top talent for picks. My2 c
Blow it all up.. from the top on down
Matthews to Detroit
You wonder whats the plan besides "doing nothing" could be with this management.
Start the rebuild, trade Matthews. He is going to walk after this contract anyways. Get as much value for him at this point and start the rebuild process now
That's ridiculous…..more draft picks and prospects to give away…build this team…
Message to the Leaf Board. Are you keeping Treliving and Pelley? Do you not realize that is like having your Ex-Wife pick your next gf and friends for you. Time to put your big boy pants on and grow some culture. The new game is speed and puck movement. Be Brave Be Bold.
Get rid of 34.
Treliving knows that trades such as Carlo are going to show just how much he overpaid last year when he doesn't get even close to what he paid.
Treliving must go! Doesn't have a clue and what does Pelley know? No sport management experience!
Go bottom 5 leafs just keep being loserrrrrs Leafs go for the basement get that pick back…
I have been saying the same thing for a few years now. The roster hasn't been good for 7 or 8 years now. Fiddling with the fringes of the team because you think you are close hasn't worked for years. All they have done is dig a bigger and bigger whole every year and the outcome is a team with no draft picks, no prospects and not much cap space and bunch of bad contracts. Think of the team Yzerman took over on Detroit, but not quite as bad. They should have started 5 years ago getting rid of Nylander, Rielly and yes Matthews when they would have gotten a good return for him. The future is bleak unless they realize they need a rebuild. IF they do it right, next year will be worse and maybe the year after too.
Treliving should be fired. BEFORE Friday. Don't give him a chance to screw anything else up. Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Marner. No single gm has lost as many big pieces on their team as Treliving in the cap era.
Pronger said blow it up
Keep the young trade Willie Finger and Mathews
Make J.T the C again
I'm sure John Tavares now regrets ever leaving the NY Islanders
When are LAFF fans going to realize that Matthews isn't interested in a Stanley Cup ring, it is Gold Medals and World Championships, much like the Russians….. Laffs Stanley Cup 20….. 67…. Looks good on ya….. YOU are not the centre of The UNIVERSE!!!!
Please get rid of Matthew’s! I watch his pregame interview last night before the Flyers game. Hands in his pockets, low energy, doesn’t not project confidence in himself.
Why sell when we seem to be tanking just fine with the current roster? Dont panic trade all the talent away. You wont get good value then youll have ZERO talent AND ZERO picks.
prepare for McDavid. Matthews off to LA for Byfield, Clarke and draft choices?
Mathews needs to demand a trade. Get out of Toxic Toronto!
Josh Doan
Laferriere
Zellweger
Kent Johnson
Etc. We need to move OEL, Stolarz, Rielly, McMann for younger faster skilled players. For years we’ve tried duct taping roster holes with old vets on bad deal and ‘grit’ …. GET HOCKEY PLAYERS stop over thinking.
Move #1, fire Brad and every person he endorsed in the organization.
Step #2, tell MLSE board to get their hands out of the soup.
Rebuild!!! Montreal took 3 years to rebuild and loook at them now. Fire Treiliving and Pelley !!!!
Hayes is not a fraud. I repeat Hayes is a fraud.
Maybe Treliving could go talk to his dad and try to bring Boston Pizza back to it's glory days, and leave hockey to the pros.
Totally gut the team, and rebuild. Look at the Habs, they did it.
Seems like every team but 7 is tanking in this beer league. The league needs to do something. Fans paying hard earned money to watch teams purposely lose!! WTF
Maybe The Maple Leafs Forgot Their Defensive Top 5 DNA Since 1967 Where Did You And How They Lost Focus While Being Greedy For The Almighty $… The Toronto Maple Leafs' top defensive teams are historically defined by periods of consistent championship success in the 1940s and 1960s, as well as specific modern seasons with elite goaltending and structured systems.
Top 5 Defensive Teams in Franchise History
1947–1948 Team: Widely considered one of the greatest defensive clubs in NHL history.
Core: Garth Boesch and Bill Barilko formed a top pairing, supported by Gus Mortson and Jim Thomson.
Goaltending: Backed by Hall of Famer Turk Broda, this team emphasized overall defensive depth to secure a Stanley Cup.
1928–1929 Team: Holds the franchise record for the fewest goals against in a season (69 over 44 games).
Key Stat: Lorne Chabot posted a 1.61 GAA, which remains the lowest single-season GAA for a starter in team history.
Context: While from a different era, their 1.57 goals-against per game remains a benchmark for defensive efficiency.
1966–1967 Team: The last Stanley Cup-winning roster, noted for its veteran "shutdown" capability.
Core: Anchored by defensive specialists like Bobby Baun and Tim Horton, who were renowned for their physicality and shot-blocking.
Goaltending: Managed by the legendary duo of Johnny Bower and Terry Sawchuk.
1953–1954 Team: Statistically one of the best defensive performances in the modern 70-game era.
Key Stat: Harry Lumley recorded a franchise-record 13 shutouts in a single season.
Defense: Featured Allan Stanley and Tim Horton in their defensive primes.
1992–1993 Team: The modern standard for defensive structure under head coach Pat Burns.
Core: A "no-name" but highly effective defensive unit including Sylvain Lefebvre (+33), Bob Rouse, and Dave Ellett.
System: Driven by Selke-winner Doug Gilmour’s 200-foot game and Felix Potvin’s breakout rookie season.
Cricket is Canada's game of the future. Canada's cricket player Yuvraj Singh Samra, a 19 year old boy now holds the record for fastest 100 in T20 worldcup. The leafs should give up their sticks and pick up cricket bats. They will have more success.
Hayes is right! Leaf fans want them to sell as much as possible.
New Team policy – no more no trade, no movement clauses for any player. These clauses handcuffed the Leafs from truly reshaping the team when they knew they needed to change the core.
Matthews and Nylander are in their prime now. If you're not "going for it" they have to go too.
As an Oiler fan who has experienced B2B SCF losses, and before that a decade of sadness. The only thing that truly can give me solace, is knowing Leaf fans have had it harder.
No one trusts Treliving to do what is necessary. He made it clear last summer that he couldn't do what needed to be done.
It'll take the leafs 100 years
Trade Mathews for first pick this year plus, plus, etc
Trade Nylander to
Trade everything get much picks prospects
You do not build or rebuild a NHL team based on what the fans want. You either build a team to make money or win a Stanley Cup. If you want money the more marque players that can score and the fans love the better. If you want to win the Stanley Cup you put together the best team possible and that takes years.
The core 4 happened because it was what the fans wanted and what MLSE wanted. High scoring marque players.
it's sad how this all turned out after that asinine Hockey News cover in 2018 that had Matthews, Marner, and Nylander on it with the title "PLAN THE PARADE: THE LEAFS WILL WIN THE CUP, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF WHEN, AND HOW MANY" 🤣😂 if you believe in any kind of "hockey gods" or whatever, this has to be them giving the leafs organization karma for exuding that repulsive level of arrogance and unfound confidence based on ZERO collective playoff experience by those 3… but even with that said – it requires actually making the playoffs for all those years and seeing the "performance" (or lack thereof) for all these playoff years to realize that "oh – these guys have ZERO clutch and ZERO heart and ZERO fight and ZERO ability to dig deep in the big games that matter most"… if there was a 2K rating called "Stepping it up in the playoffs" , this group's collective rating would be ZERO… but i think management couldn't have ever seen this coming – you have to actually get to the playoffs to see this 2K rating take effect in front of your own eyes…. SO unfortunate it turned out this way – no way of knowing this group turtles in the playoffs when the team is young and full of hope…
Either I was born in 84. I was born in the a dumpster behind a Tim Hortons near maple leaf gardens. That’s what it feels like being a leafs fan. I shoulda chose meth over the leafs at least they look like they are having fun sometimes.
