FINALLY! A 2 WEEK EARLY BDAY GIFT! 😀
DJ Smith is very unlikely to improve the team. Would have taken a more experienced voice and the Kings chose not to make a stronger hire.
We need to change our system, stop squandering our talent
Matt Greene is now an assistant coach. So that's cool. That's all I got
About a year too late.
Not even a Kings fan, but took them long enough.
As a non bias observer, I don’t think LA makes the playoffs and they might finsh below SJ and Calgary
As a Canuck fan….I'd still rather have Hiller as our coach instead of Foote. I honestly think Foote is easily the worst coach in the league.
Sens fan here. At least Kings players will have a coach who’ll be their best mate. Not sure you’ll win many hockey games.
What the Kings need is a Dustin Brown type character. The teams identity really went on a decline after the two Stanley Cup Wins.
No they most likely won’t turn it around and if they make the playoffs they more than likely won’t make it out of the first round regardless of it they play Edmonton or not.
2011 October hockey was great in January 2012 Music worked 5 years for Kings Cut offs and money else where. Those kids were grade 8 till 10. . . 2019. need a scout now.
Feels good, but I'm under no delusion that firing Hiller is going to solve their problems. He was just one part of it but one of the easiest to solve. He should have been let go in the off-season. Matt Greene getting an assistant position is interesting considering he was Doughty and Kopitar's teammate in the cup runs. I think the team overall doesn't have it and injuries to Fiala and Kuzmenko are not going to help with the lack of production. Byfield hasn't taken the next step like everyone expected after last season and it feels like we're back to square one with him. There doesn't seem to be a center on this team that can step into Kopitar's skates next season. The future looks a bit bleak. I don't expect much movement at the deadline. Panarin was the big move.
Kings should’ve fired Luc Robitalle and anybody he’s hired.
The real problem is Ken Holland
Kings could trade Kopi to a Contender.
Hey Treliving … run to the phone !
Fire Holland.
First order of business is showing them what checking is.
I hate when teams fire their coach. Arguably best Offensive player on IR. (Fiala or Kempe)
I wish they would bring back that jersey…it’s always been my favorite. Staying up late on the east coast and watching them at night as a kid. Happy memories
Good riddance. I didn’t think Hiller was a good coach, and I thought he was pretty dumb as well
What can a new coach do at this time? Our roster is not set up to play anything but a neutral zone trap. We do not have the speed and defensemen to play an aggressive forecheck style. We absolutely have no centers. Our number one center is actually a RW. We have an idiot of a Director of Scouting. Mark Yannetti could not find his hands from a hole in the ground. I thought he was an idiot when I heard his interview with the Mayor. What draft high draft picks, other than Clarke have worked out (except for Faber.) Byfield (who couldn't win a faceoff even if it were unopposed) and Turcotte (from the beginning, I thought he declared for the draft too early and was immature) are busts, among many others. I was not impressed with his latest so called prospect, Liam Greentree. The Rangers will find out soon about him. Before he ruins another draft, Yannetti needs to go. Our GM signed Codi Ceci and Brian Dumoulin to save our defense. It is incredible to note that the Kings have drafted only these good to great centers – Butch Goring, and Anze Kopitar. Luc is a nice guy – nice guys finish last. Rob Blake ruined this franchise twice, as a player and as a GM. Yes, I am a Kings fan. I go back to the early 70's. I thought I would die before the Kings won a Stanley Cup. I predicted after the Jeff Carter trade that the Kings would win the Stanley Cup. It saddens me to see the current state of the Kings.
The Kings were bad or mediocre for years. Then they randomly won 2 Stanley Cups, and went back to being mediocre or bad.
The Kings have been sloppy all season. They look unfocused at times and lost or tied numerous games that should have been easy wins. Very frustrating to watch them this year.
Thank you, Hockey Guy. I do believe the Kings will make the playoffs and get past the first round.
honestly havent been paying too too much attention to the kings this season until i heard we got that BREAD and now with this coaching change, my excitements skyrocketed. idrc if the kings do or dont turn it around or whatever im just glad im interested in watching in the first place!
Robitaille to DJ Smith:
"So, DJ. Are you gonna bring to the Kings a style of coaching different from Hiller's?
"Smith, yeah, I think I can…"
Robitaille: "No. The answer is no, you're not!"
Smith: "No, I'm not"
Robitaille: "That's a good little puppet"
why can't the Devils fire their GM and front office?
Thank you.
THE KINGS CAN FIRE THEIR HC BUT THE DEVILS CAN'T PLEASE GOD
Very happy with the firing of Hiller. He lost the locker room last playoffs series and should never have gotten another go at it. Our record was good, sure but if you lose the locker room then it makes it nearly impossible to win.
We need another acquisition. Be it a winger because Fiala is out, or more importantly a centre, something has to be done. Too many average players to get anywhere. Laferriere, Moore, Foegel are all average at best and we need a upgrade or two really. Our D core is shaky, but is serviceable enough.
The biggest problem I see is we don't have the assets to trade or cap space to do what we need to do. Either Holland pulls something off, or we get lucky again like with Panarin, or the Kings just miss the playoffs and finish middle of the pack.
I think they could have held it off a couple of games
what position could help scoring? center? wing? defense?
Kopi and Daughty stuck around too long IMO, loyal dudes but at some point ya gotta leave or retire.
No way we're turning it around this year. Id gear up for a retool at the deadline. Damn near everyone on this team is a passenger. Sell who you can and get ready for a dark season or two. Clean out the front office. Pretty standard. We beat New York in 14' and we're in a similar boat oddly enough.
If they were going to fire Hiller, it should have been before the Olympic break. This is a desperate measure that almost never works. My math says you will need at least 93-95 points to get into the playoffs. So realistically, Kings can't lose more than six games in regulation when they return from the break. They have already lost three. On top of all that, you're now missing five offensive starters. It's really almost insurmountable.
DJ🤣
Wasn't that long ago all we'd hear about was how great the Kings minors were supposed to be! Well, what the hell happened? Not one of them maybe except Valardi has done much of anything so all those spouting how good these draft picks were must have been drinking the same Kool-Aid Rob Flake was when he picked them! Taking Bustfield over Stutzle was a HUGE mistake but just one of many Flake made!
Kings fan sounding off. I wish we could have had a better year for Kopi's last but I don't think buying to chase another 1st round playoff exit is the right move. We have some great veteran players and some very strong willed younger guys. If we could get some real young talent I think we will see the kings playoff ready in a couple of years. I think any moves that trades Laferrier, Byfield, or Clarke for older talent would be a huge mistake.
