We’re trading OEL, like it or not we’re going to need him. All we can do is hope that he bounces back.

If he doesn’t, sucks. But the buyout talk is emotional.

  2. Svalbard38

Man you can’t just post posts with salary numbers and years in the runup to the deadline like this

  3. The dude would be decent for a team that plays fast (Edmonton)… just not suited for Berube’s
Style of play.. which also factors into Matthews. He doesn’t “suck”, he just doesn’t play defence the same way McCabe does. Leafs fans couldn’t tell though. They ran Mitch out of town.

Like it or not, we’re stuck with him. Hopefully with a new coach and system he can find his game again next year.

What about a Pettersson and Rielly swap? Would you prefer to pay Elias 11.6 per year for 6 more years?

Mo goes home, which he’s more likely to waive for, and Pettersson comes to a team that has historically done well with Swedish players and would be insulated with good Swedish pros.

Can someone post an auction for Morgan Reilly on eBay?

  7. specialk554

This shouldn’t have been unexpected for anyone. Reilly even at his prime was a fairly low IQ defenseman who had great athleticism and a decent pass. His athletic performance was always going to tank in this contract leaving him in a terrible spot. Mcmann if resigned for 5 mill as rumours say, will be the same thing.

  8. DunkTheRunk

Was never a deadline deal. Always been an off-season trade.

  9. dunken_pirate

This is going to be an offseason transaction.

  10. carletondabare

Trading Rielly now would be stupid. His value is at an all-time low. He might not be a top pairing D anymore but I have no doubt he’d look better under a different coach, which would make him easier to move.

  11. Grand-Amoeba1832

I like Rielly. Just like Matthews, could be symptoms of Berube system. Never know. Both players seem slower the last two years. With Berube.

  12. Standard-Focus-1815

Am I revising history or were there not some thoughts at the time that the AAV was decent value?

  13. One-Association-5005

At least someone is getting something out of this team.

    Good for him!

  14. MrJeffA17

    Per Kypreos remember

Wouldn’t have expected him traded at the deadline anyway. This feels like an off season move

  15. Muted-Row6391

Honestly he is my life goal model. Super high income with stability

  16. Weekly-Midnight7174

He has a NMC that’s why there’s no trade market. Trade Rielly posts should be banned lol Revisit in two years when it lifts.

  17. Rielly is never going to be a deadline trade. The Leafs aren’t going to get good value on him, but I guarantee you that if Morgan waives his NTC that the Leafs can find a trade for him in the offseason.

Most this sub was very happy when it was signed.

  19. One_Age78

Honest question, could they donate him to a soup kitchen or something? Is that allowed in the NHL?

  20. Prof_Scott_Steiner

No, it’s that even at 50% retained there are better, younger, faster options at $3.75. Maybe not for four years locked in, but smarter teams are quickly learning that market efficiencies are found in not maxing out term on your re-signs.

  21. Mr_Moose_Eh

He is a really solid d man, just not in this coaching system.

We get rid of him – everyone will be yelling for a puck moving dman.

He has never been a #1 and never will be. But he has been asked to be one. Not his fault.

Reilly is a good player and we should not be trying to get rid of him.

  22. fancypants55

I’ll get shredded I’m sure, but he can do much better with a different system and coach.

Our speed and offense has been completely neutered under Berube.

Now I’m not saying don’t trade him, but it’s a horrible time to do it with his value so low

  23. ResponsibleCouple278

There isn’t a team dumb enough to offer him 1/4 of that.

  24. 40cappo40

    BUT DUBAS WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111111111111111111

  25. Correct no trade because he is not on the market to be traded… what do people not understand about a no trade clause.

  26. tooldieguy

Send him to Robidas Island, never to be seen again.

  27. Select-Fan1869

Do you think if we all chip in we can donate 7.5mil just to get him off the ice?

  28. JustANormalGuy46

I bet if he was waived, no team would touch him.

  29. Key-Word1335

Great Person but he hit his ceiling a while back. It’s all been down hill. I feel bad for the guy in a way. He’s been thru the shit times, the fun times, and now one again the shit times.

Just adding that I would l love for him to stick around the organization when his careers done. We all called him Captain Mo wt some point.

  30. wylee_one

nobody heading to the playoffs can afford to take this contract on anyway
