  1. No retention for weegar on flames side and those 3 picks two of them can get another 1st rounder and Calgary scouting is pro

  2. Is this the new definition of "BLOCKBUSTER" in the NHL? Surely not Steve, you are better than this

  3. If this was last season I’d call this a crazy move for the Flames, but seeing where things are now, it makes sense. They’re embracing a rebuild (or at least part of a rebuild), so they’re shoring up draft picks. Weegar has been having a terrible season as well (his plus/minus is awful, where he’s usually pretty damn good), so this may give him a spark too. Flames have some good up-and-coming talent and they want to add whatever they can in the draft for future seasons. Hopefully this all bears fruit.

  4. If BT was still doing our drafting I'd be less excited but Conroy seems to be pretty good at finding value even deeper into the draft than the 2nd round

  5. Funny seeing one person say that Utah got fleeced and another say that Calgary got fleeced. Ultimately I think both teams win here, unless Weegar's horrible season turns out to be just the way he's playing going forward. In that case it's a clear win for Calgary to move the player, unretained, for a respectable haul, and a clear loss for Utah. But seems more likely than not Utah will get at least a couple good years out of him, so everyone should be happy with this deal.

  6. I love the SDPN bias against Calgary. They always say too that Calgary is all talk but everyone they were rumoured to be selling moved so far

  7. Flames fan here.

LOVE IT. Didn’t retain anything, Weeg’s has had a TERRIBLE year, Flames are in a full rebuild, they now have 6 picks in the first 2 rounds and they could get even more if they move Kadri and Coleman.
We have some really good prospects coming lol Wyttenbach and Reschny. Conny is building purely with young.
I love this deal. No reason to keep Weegar here, we’re just adding to the cabinet.

  8. Please please please I’m begging you do a trade tree from the original Florida and Calgary deal cause BOYYY it’s going to end huge when it does

  9. As a coyotes fan, I’ve been preaching about Bill Armstrongs genius FOR YEARS. Nobody saw the long game and couldn’t see the play when he was taking on all those dead contracts. He’s been brilliant. And I’m still bitter the team got shipped out.

  10. as a calgarian who lives in utah currently, i think it works for both teams. flames need prospects and all picks they can get, if weegs turns it around and gets back to his game, that is very good for utah and he will be playing with better D partners and on a better team who's more offensive

  11. For me, I’m just glad the Flames aren’t holding the bag if Weegar has age regressed and not just had a bad year.

If he improves again, good for him, still didn’t fit the flames timeline. I hope he wins there.

  12. Flames fan here, Weegar was pretty awful this year, so I am very happy with the return. I think you are over valuing Weegar a bit to be honest.

  13. The NYR 2nd will end up being almost a 1st. Flames turned one asset into 5, and the picks are currency. You don't have to draft with them.

  14. The blue line is as important as ever for hockey teams. This pickup may give Utah stability to avoid blowout losses. The hope is he can put up points every night if Utah wants to be a real cup contender. It’s a 9 out of 10 trade for Utah.

  15. Castagna listed as utah #10 best prospect in latest edition of the hockey news – weegar – 35 plus minus this year is cause for concern
