One could argue that what the Leafs lost in Marner was the equivalent of a #1 defenseman. If you look at the point standings right now, you have Werenski, Marner, Makar, Hughes and Hudson – 23rd through 27th. If you add in the fact that the Leafs never really found a point man for their power play, this argument becomes even more compelling. So maybe this is further evidence that the Leafs have been missing this piece of the equation for longer than just this year…
Woll seems easy to beat in shoot outs. His record is .750 but lately seems wide open . Do they have a different goalie coach this year because Woll and Stolartz played way better last season?

Still nobody wants to trade Mathews but we need the return for him as he WILL leave in two years. No first rounders for 2 years and very few prospects. Defence is past its prime. It is inevitable. Next question. Had the Captain been watching another team mate getting rocked would all 6'4 of Mathews jump Gudas to send a message or skate the other way.

It really doesn’t matter how the leafs played tonight. Their season is done. You can stick a fork in them and if I were Austin Matthews, I’d be asking for a trade and haven’t helped the fifth round draft choice they might get if they tank I wouldn’t wanna apply her. They don’t have what it takes to win the Stanley Cup. And I have been and always will be a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. That’s what hurts the most.
