McKinnon has 5 this season so he and Cole are tied for the league lead scored on a goalie goals.
This is one of those things that seems really odd until you realize that he’s not really the guy you’d use in a 6 on 5 late defensive stand where the opportunity would arise
In the Winnipeg game, Habs were up by 3 with 5min left when the Jets pulled the goalie.
Watching Evans, Danault and Anderson fumble for 5min without scoring en EN was painful.
At some point, with our 5vs6 defense being as bad as it is, I’d throw Caufield out there. Not to pad his stats, but because you know *he* won’t miss en empty net if he gets the puck.

It’s a bonkers level of lack of trust right? I realize the defensive side of things are important but goal scorers are opportunistic by nature. Having the chance to steal the puck for a goal seems like it’s worth a shot no?
Or is it just that the veteran room is so veteran thy they are awarded that time by right of “it makes up for not being on the power play”.
Unfortunately, he isn’t the guy you put out a man down.

Right now I’m happy he actually got to 40 and figure he’ll end the season with like 44.
If he gets a Hatty in the next 2 games or has 44 goals by this time next week I’ll be getting fired up to see if he can win the rocket this year.
Cole winning the franchise’s first rocket trophy on the 30th anniversary year of the Bell Center opening just might be what finally brings the Forum ghosts over.

I know it’s a good stat in some ways, but considering how many EN we squandered where the team scored and tied the game against us. ENs are not ‘easy’ goals.
