He was at the edge of his reach leaning in on a backhand. Didn’t have enough leverage to control the direction. Bad break after not reacting fast enough for a tap in last game. He got it up, just couldn’t direct it towards himself.
Probably had more time than he thought. Gibson hadn’t tracked the puck yet.

On the Red Wings broadcast Mickey Redmond said that Jake just wasn’t balanced cause he was leaning too far. It’s important to remember that Jake is a little undersized so his reach isn’t the same as someone like Slaf

Listen, I don’t have a problem with Matheson getting the contract that he did. What I do have a problem with is that we’ve put him in a role where’s he’s expected to be a shutdown defender and he’s just not that and now he signed for 6 more years in that role.
