@Flyers de Philadelphie

Errson is 90th out of 93 in expected goals saved above average.
If the Flyers can improve their back up situation that alone likely puts them in the playoffs.

Same spot. Until we get rid of Tocchet no one will improve

  3. yankeeh8er

They will be battling for 1st in the division this time next year.

Idk about this year but it does feel like next year we could be sneaking into the playoffs with a young team and rookie Porter Martone. In which case, I’m gonna be going wild in the stands.

Its hard for me to get too excited about the future of this team right now. Center play is so important, we have nothing there right now, and unclear how we’re going to fix that problem. We don’t have nearly enough top-end offensive talent, which is why our power play is terrible. We play a very boring/defensive style and historically its more offensive teams that win cups. Excited about the young guys but we’ve been sold that story before.

Sorry to be so negative, but its hard not to be beaten down after the last decade.

Flyers are stealing points by playing a style that gets the team to overtime. They are a very limited team, talented wise.
Vladar is having a career season. If he returns yo his mean, this team is as bad as they were last season.

Martone will bring talent, but tge club this lacks a 1c, 1d, and true starting goalie.

We also have just 1 additional ROW from this date last year although we have played 2 fewer games. This growth in the standings isn’t indicative of us playing much better hockey. We are simply playing not to lose and it’s allowing us to pile up more points. (Also Dan Vladar).

We haven’t shown that we are capable of playing games in a style that would be competitive in the playoffs at all. Out of 68 games this year, we have only won 20 that would clearly translate to a win in the playoffs (RW). We are in the hunt, but it feels artificial. It doesn’t feel like we’re actually “playing the right way” to teach our young guys how to win. All that said, I hope they find a way to grow and prove me wrong.

OP’s post is like red meat for the noisy 20% of Flyer ‘fans’ who live for whining about everything related to the team.

Well Martone is making the team. The other guys you note are trying to Jett is a lock for the AHL next year I think.

Tyson back helps. Better backup goalie. Then try and fix that PP. it’s embarrassing.

If they put their big boy pants on and sign someone like Pinchuk and he can translate his game from the KHL to NHL, they will be better positioned than they are now. We all know they are woefully undertalented at center.

Wherever they find themselves next year, I hope that it comes with a monster season from Foerster and a big bounce back for Michkov. I’d love to see them take Tippetts hot streak and try to get additional center talent at the draft. Additionally, it can’t be understated how crucial it is for Drysdale to have another season where he takes a massive leap, like he’s done this year.

Ideally they’re just not doing this Tocchet Michkov battle dogshit.

We could potentially squeak in next year but we shouldn’t have high hopes for that. However thinking back to being at a Flyers playoff game gives me goosebumps. Literally nothing like it and this city needs that shit.

  12. thatguy672

How will this team acquire a 1c? Seems impossible at this point if they don’t prioritize drafting one.

  13. Steppyjim

I said at the beginning of the year, I believe this team was a fringe playoff team. I think next year they take another step with young guys improving and I have the inkling that they’re going to get a significant player in the off-season at some point, whether it’s a free agent trade whatever. I think this is a playoff team next year. Not number one in the east, but definitely a wild card team.

Worst case scenario. We miss the playoffs and have a shitty draft pick while still missing key pieces

  16. Strong_Weird_9358

It’s so difficult to predict. With the continued infusion of young players on this team, Flyers will probably continue to be one of the youngest teams in the NHL. Young players can be exciting, but historically, they can struggle in the win/loss column. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the Flyers have a few more Top 10 lottery picks coming their way. Fans will lose their minds when it happens, but it’s a normal part of the process.

Next March 20th we’ll be right around here again

And the March after that I’d guess probably the exact same spot

And one more March from then I’d guess around the same

  18. It’s interesting perspective.

I think a lot of people here just expect a switch to flip and the team to never go through a middling phase (case in point how bad they were last season). They definitely improved, and for all the shitting on the prospects that you read about in here, Bump and Barkey look pretty promising so far. Michkov is obviously a potential centerpiece. Zegras is 25. And the defense and Vladar have been pretty good.

They might not be a cup contender yet but they have way more potential than people give them credit for.

Totally ironic because 7 or 8 years ago people were fawning over our prospects that were ranked so high and never played a game in the NHL. We know how that ended up.

1st. If it takes us a year to move 14 spots, it should take us a year to move 14 more spots!

  20. cougarnut174

Risto is playing at an extremely high level right now. He is a pleasure to watch.

  21. Embarrassed_Hat9497

Based on math. Depending on how we look at it. If we continue this trend and proportional growth. We will be in 7th place twice as good and half the place. But if its linear, we will be in 0th place. y=-14x+28. Either way I’m excited for the future.

  22. QuietCompany6858

Jiriceck seems to be more of a steal everyday.
