Coach should be fired. Almost lost another game because the “protect the lead” mentality. If I was coach, I would tell my team to blow away teams for 60 minutes
The Hawks are playing a system where Bedeard is supposed to cover the point man. Most of the time, it is the center who goes down low to help the D, but Bedard has been given a pass on that role. Two goals against came from the point man having too much time and space. The first goal Bedard made himself as small as he could, and the D man could choose where he shot. The last goal Bedard was way too low, and the whole right side was wide open. I know the kid is young, but the Hawks have done everything they can to take on the hard burden of helping down low and given him the winger's role in their zone. You cannot let NHL dmen have the time and space to pick where and when they shoot. Any team that works the puck from low to high will pick the Hawks' system apart. Once the other team shoots, all five men collapse, and you could toss a blanket over all six players.
Stupid win for the Blackhawks. We don't need points. Save it for next season.
Next season the Hawks will be very dangerous! Also…screw that mentality of 'protecting the lead'…get another coach with a killer-like instinct please…tired of the rolling over nonsense!

I don't think the hawks were protecting a lead. They were outplayed and outworked in the 3rd period by a team that is desperate for points. Reality is, hawks just aren't a really good team that can decide when they want to dominate like many people in these comments seem to believe. Also for anyone that is annoyed at hawks getting points because this season is over…this is a team that is made up of a majority of young players that need to know how to play at an NHL level. If you think there isn't value in winning a game like this on the road for anyone in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th seasons, you have no idea what you're talking about and need to shut up.
