    > Just five candidates remain, with Patrick Roy and Joe Pavelski believed to be among those that made the final cut, according to both TSN and Sportsnet.

    > General manager John Chayka said last week in Buffalo at the NHL draft combine that he was looking for a coach who can deal with players in their prime, veteran players, role players, and young players starting out their careers.

    > It’s also believed the former Vegas Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy might be a candidate, but Vegas hasn’t given any team permission to speak with him, citing the conditions of his contract.

    > Some rumoured candidates whose status as finalists for the Leafs job is unclear are University of Denver coach David Carle and former Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft.

I assume Carle is not in the running, but I’m not sure if McGran knows something that the rest of us don’t.

But those are the names from the article.

I’m intrigued by Pavelski but it’s such a risk

So Roy and Pavelski. Who do we think (hope) the other 3 are? I’m hoping Ahokas, Carle and Woodcroft.

I love how the media really is just kind of blindly guessing. We will all just find out when it happens.

  5. It would be a big mistake if John Gruden did not get a legitimate opportunity.

It would be weird to see Roy coach us.

Hey have you guys heard the news, it’s down to 5

Please no on Roy. It would make me very concerned about Chundin if they go with him

I’d wonder what about Pavelski has carried him through the hiring process. He was an elite talent even into his late 30s, but that doesn’t always translate (Gretzky being a prime example). But he did always strike me as a cerebral player knowing where to be to score, as well as always being a great face off guy (traits I associate with thinking the game at a high level). I would wonder how involved he was strategizing and drawing up plays alongside the coach when he was a player. Also his work ethic might endear him to players more so than a Gretzky who was blessed with natural talent.

Personally I would have no issue with the hire. As I said I think he sees the game at a high level. I think he would be a dynamic coach with the ability to adapt his style of coaching.

  10. I feel like Pavelski would be for the Marlies if they decided on promoting John Gruden.

Seeing Pavelski makes me think of Jumbo.

I know he’s involved in the Sharks organization now, but I can’t help but think about him behind the bench when I think of Pavs.

  12. If it’s Pavelski maybe Gruden or someone experienced becomes his well paid assistant

Losing Manny Malhotra to Vancouver was a mistake. Although, Vancouver had a much higher chance of landing him tbf.

I feel like we know very little about what’s really happening. I think the choice will surprise. Probably David Carle lol
