When you really look at it, it's not far off from a President's Trophy banner. It's just a bit more specific. They were indeed the best team in the Western Conference during the regular season. It's a slightly better divisional banner and a slightly worse President's trophy banner. Although honestly, I think the only banner's that really should go up are the Cup banners and retired numbers banners.

I was always under the impression that you raise a banner for your first division championship, then just add years to that same banner. That's the way a lot of NBA, NFL, and NCAA teams do it.

The Red Wings had multiple of each of these banners hanging in the Joe and now in Little Caesar's Arena. When they would win the Western Conference Finals and go to the Stanley Cup Finals they hung Clarence Campbell Bowl banners. So the have Division, Western Conf. Regular Season, President's Trophy, Campbell Bowl and Stanley Cup banners. I understand the last few years have been rough, but 25 straight playoff bound seasons…….I don't think anyone is mocking that organization for their banner raising.
