I thought it was the goaltending. I liked Bruce its bullshit. Both goalies are backup goalies and will never have the skills to be starters
Nothing wrong with Cassidy. He did the best with what he was given. It's Neely and Sweeney that should have been fired. Montgomery is OK and I wish him luck.
I don't share your opinion on Cassidy. I thought he was a problem for the development of some of the guys. Montgomery is known as a player's coach but I don't think you can call him a softy. He does allow players more freedom when it comes to play. I think this is a good signing and I believe you may be surprised at how well the Bruins are under Montgomery. He also has some New England ties so he has a good idea if the pressure he will face in Boston. He was the captain and (I think) at the University of Maine when they won the championship in 93.
And I have to disagree with you about Sweeney just picking him. I do think that Sweeney picked who he felt was best for the job.
Head Coaches ALWAYS take the fall for bad front office failures. Not just in hockey.
My first choice would have been Marc Savard, maybe they can get him as an assistant? Don't mind Montgomery, of the coaches they interviewed , would have gone with leach, but JM is okay, glad they did not go with Quinn or Sacco and really happy they stayed away from deBoer.

In my opinion, the changing of the coach's is not about who is better. It's about who's a better fit for this team. I really think that Bruce's voice, style of coaching, etc. got stale.
Sometimes when you make it all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and loose, it's hard to come back from that. Both Mentally and Psychologically. We've been on the down hill ever since that. I think when you come that far and you don't make it, the only way to go is down. So with Cassidy, Players, Organization etc. All of it just ran it's course. So changing coach's was the right thing to do. For both sides…

I can’t believe this. Sweeney and Neely are running the whole show and they should be ashamed. Putting their own interests over what’s best for this team. Cassidy was the last person that deserves to be blamed this teams failures. Did Sweeney not just waste like 5+ mill on Foligno and Nosek and their 2 goals or am I missing something?
The amount of time it took Cassidy to split up the perfection line to help with depth scoring and to realize Smith is not a top two line player was concerning to me.
Cassidy lost the room … Bergy came back because of this move and Pasta Will likely resign … don’t talk about cap space they will make it for pasta … coach’s have a shelf life Cassidy already has a job .. they all reach there

Jim, I feel sorry for you. Your core includes two top d out until at least November, Brad Marchand out until November with hip surgeries, Your 37 year old captain with elbow surgeries, relying on Krecji coming back, a player like DeBrusk who now has the approval to NO SHOW when he wants and the coach will get fired if he tries to change that, a poor drafting Gm with very little future players, and no money for Free agents, you are going to be swimming up stream. If you do have success, you will be a shoe in for coach of the year.
Pass judgment once I see the product on the ice. I expect to be disappointed they really need to rebuild.
Cassidy was the scapegoat because they didn't have the balls to fire Sweeney. Also believe the rumors that players weren't big fans of him. So hopefully the coaching change will be a spark for the team and for Montgomery. Either way we still dont have a full legit roster right now. Sweeney sucks.
