  1. If the Leafs dont make it to the 3rd round this season, then I think that Dubas will be fired. As a Habs fan living in Leafs nation, I can tell you that the pressure on the Leafs to go deep into the playoffs THIS year is already building and will explode if they fall early on again. I think THIS is the season that will make or break Matthews decision to stay, or go.

  2. I'd want out if I was Matthews too.. leafs just can't get past round 1 and they got arguably worse this off-season, specifically in net

  3. Fake news speculation there is no universe where Toronto will let him walk. Toronto will pay more than a $120 million over a 8yr deal.

  4. Pretty wild news! My jaw hit the floor so hard the devil was like “dude!”. Matthews leaving Toronto seems like a reality.🤔 Tbh it’s weird and shocking that he’ll leave and head to the kings of all teams in the mid 2020s but if the Maple Leafs are in a rebuild (again) then it seems more possible to trade away big name players. This will be a interesting mid 2020 couple of years

  5. If Toronto doesn't progress in the playoffs, I believe he leaves to the highest Bidder to an American team that can compete

  6. Dubas structured all signings in a way he can hand matthews a blank check. Am34 isn't going anywhere.

  7. Being an Ottawa media personality is basically the bottom of the bottom of the D-list. Gotta do what you gotta do to get engagement.

  8. if mathews actually showed up in the playoffs like in the regular season then maybe the leafs would make it to round 2

  9. On the one hand, it could happen. Anything can potentially happen in two years time.

On the other hand, it's just some dude — high profile or not — saying something just so people talk about something in the last moments of twilight before the dawn of a new NHL season begins.

  10. Before even watching this video, I know that the tweet being referenced in this video is going to be that of a dude who jokes in half of all his tweets and goes by the name of Shawn Simpson

  11. lego why are you acting like the leafs cant give him that same deal. the leafs have over 50 million in cap space in 2 years.

  12. If Toronto loses in round 1 again, I feel like it might happen. Dubas hasnt done big enough changes to break that round 1, as a player it must be frustrating to always have the same team and get the same result year after year. A team that has a great top 6, but their bottom 6 leaves much to be desired. Decent defence, but goalies are always questionable. I always thought the Tavares signing wasn't amazing, coiuld have kept Kadri. Marner is great, but IMO slightly too high for a winger, you pay big money for Centers, Defencemen and goalies. Wingers, have less responsibilities than those positions. They have no cap space to provide a good bottom 6, and in the playoffs you need 4 solid lines. They lost to teams like Columbus, and Montreal, because those teams had a better bottom 6, similar or better defence, and better goalies. Great regular season team, not so good playoff team since refs don't call anything and players like Marner have no space or time to make plays.

  13. Good!! Take Marner as well, both are regular season warriors. by disappear like a hard-on in cold water in the playoffs!! Florida realized that fact with Jonathan Huberdeau and made a GREAT trade. The Leafs have a WOKE slug as a GM and He/She thinks Marner and Matthews will come through in the playoff even after 6 years of FAILURE.

  14. There is no world where the Leafs are getting outbid by 3 or 4 million dollars on Matthews.

  15. If they think Matthews will walk, then they should seriously consider trading him. Don’t let him walk for nothing. Toronto should consider trading one of their top 6 forwards for a top 2-3 defenseman. They also need some grit. They have a team that can win in the regular season. They just don’t have a team that can grind and win in the playoffs. They really need a team that can roll 4 lines in the playoffs.

  16. Kopitar's $10M and Quick's $5.8M will be off the books and the Kings only have $40M committed after 24. These rumblings are pretty known in LA circles that they're monitoring to see in AM becomes available. They will have to pay guys like Byfield, Kaliyev, and Durzi by that point. It makes a lot of sense though. They're entering their second Cup window and adding Matthews gives them an additional superstar to plug in and market. I wouldn't be surprised if signed with Arizona though. He grew up there and they'll have their new arena by then.

  17. Mathews people keep very quiet about his plans, but we do know this,..after this season he has a no move clause for his final contract year,so if the leafs get wind of him sniffing out other destinations, then Dubas must trade him this year, or lose him for nothing. My feeling is that Mathews people will not commit to staying in TO, but i do not think Dubas has the guts to trade him,so its going to get very interesting after this season is over.
