Et les Oilers sont-ils à blâmer pour l’implosion totale des Flames de Calgary? 1. Broberg, while being a lefty, actually prefers to play the right side.
The move that makes the most sense is to move out Barrie and play broberg as 3rd RD. Have Nemo, koekkoek etc competing for that 3rd pairing LD. Maybe bring in a cheap big guy like Jordie Benn for depth.
Use the savings from Barrie to add another depth forward.

  2. The Oilers have more defence prospects than they have open roster spots. It's time to give them a shot and see who sticks.

  3. It’s going to be a very interesting season I’m hoping for the best Colorado here we come duck

  4. I, being a Oiler fan, have to sympathize with Flames fans. They went from 1st in the Pacific to being 4th at best in the span of 2 weeks…. All because their best 2 players have decided to leave.
That's like McDavid and Draisaitl deciding to leave but even then we still have some talent in RNH, Hyman, Kane to at least rack up some points and stay in contention in the division.
Yes, Calgary has some decent forwards, but just like Edmonton, there is no way they can potentially be top of the division without our star players.
Why Calgary let Gudreau coast on to UFA status without securing a player with his talent coming back is beyond me! That is nuts that they threw caution to the wind. They had plenty of time to either sign him for at least a couple more years or have a deal in place for another elite forward or even 2 lesser elite forwards to take out some of the sting. In this business, this is what happens when you put all your eggs in 1 basket.
That's like having a team leader at your work decide to give his 2 week notice with no current offer for him elsewhere. You either sweeten the pot to keep him or you start taking interviews to replace him.
You don't just run out the clock in hopes he doesn't get a better offer somewhere else…..
So IMO, The Flames fans shouldn't be mad at the players. They should be mad at the bad Flames management!

  5. Oilers just need to be consistent and not repeat 2017/2018 season. They've started it off by putting their provincial rivals into a full out rebuild after handling the flames

  6. Yes the Oilers are 100% responsible for the Calgary implosion lol. I live in Calgary and I will confirm that. PS go Oilers go

  7. The issue is they let on 7+ goals multiple times. First it wasn't the d it was the coaching of Tippett kept running his useless lines. Woody comes in and changes it around then our goalie let's in weak goals. This will be a different season as we have a legit goalie who can make that key save. Same d core and most importantly same forward group of Kane McDavid and whoever they put in the RW.

  8. We absolutely cannot keep Barrie. They already said Bouchard is taking over the PP1 duties and that means Barries stats are going down the toilet. His new defensive skills started when Kulak was paired with him. So his new defensive stats are going down as well. So we have a 4.5 million dollar 5/6D. Kulak won’t be Barrie’s babysitter anymore. No team needs a 4.5 million dollar 5/6D.

If you don’t trade him you won’t be able to dump him after next season. He might get 10-15 points 5v5 and time on the 2nd PP. His defensive stats will be much weaker beside Broberg. Broberg is a good skater so he can maybe help cover for Barrie.

They need to bring in a solid defensive dman to play the 5/6D this season. Someone from Bakersfield can take the 7D role this season. 2 rookies and Bouchard in the line-up is sketchy.

  9. I don't feel bad for flames fans…they had it good for a long time..nice to see the tables have turned…all the years of flames fans saying Oilers are a joke in the NHL…look in mirror Calgary..because your now the joke. Karmas a bitch. You suck Cowgary!! Let's Go Oilers!!!!

  10. I'd like to hear more about Nurmalainen. No way Barrie is a good defenseman, too small, gets bullied.

  11. When you look at the TOI vs Competition Woodcrofts oilers ran a 1st pair followed by two second d pairs when they only used 6 D men. So you can look at the x/Barrie pairing as the 3rd pair based on starts, or you can look at his pair as the road game transition pairing. This would see more mins against higher competition than the middle pairing when on the road. Plus his time on the PP has been effective, with better passing than Booch, but a worse shot. Booch needs this season to prove he can run the 1st pairing PP. Barrie's 5v5 on ice scoring differental vs $$ cost is top 10% league wide.

Only reason to move Barrie out is to give a different look to the D with a Soucey or Mayfield coming back the other way. Or possibly PK low dollar signing.

The kids need time to grow in the show. Expect Samorukov and company to see a fair amount of time while the team runs 11/7 line-up to get them minutes. Slater KK will be the injury depth call up this season.

  12. Trade Barrie for shutdown RD to play w broberg, I’m nottt confident in a Broberg-Barrie line.
