Wings will be making a playoff appearance this year, this group is ready to at least get there. If they get 4-0'd first round that's fine, but just to take that step towards playoff territory will be huge. Also the model didn't even include potentially adds of an Edvinsson and other prospects that could potentially contest for a roster spot this year
tbh im sure stevie Y realizes this but we only got Vrana bc he wanted out of washington. He was stuck on 2nd/3rd line minutes and wanted to take on the 1st line minutes. I hope he can transition to RW since he shoots right. That way we can try out raymond-larkin-vrana Perron-copp-bertuzzi. Also our D now looks hard as nails. We got big punishing bodies on the back end now

I think Ottawa is a little low on this model considering they landed two star players. I don’t see how you can argue that a team like Washington improved more.
I don't think that it's unrealistic to "hope" vrana scores 40 playing with actually good lineages based on his scoring rate but I think he tops out between 33-36 goals. should be a great year if he stays healthy. Wings miss a wild card spot by 3 points. want them in but don't think they're quite there yet. unless Seider fully dominates, hronek stops his regressive slide and the top line added another slight increase. it is fun though because they actually have a top 9 as mentioned for the first time in forever

I was around 10 when the wings won the first cup in the era, so I took for granted we would always reach the playoffs. After about a decade in the wilderness, I'm excited about the Yzerplan. Hope I'm not setting my hopes too high.

If vrana is healthy all season I truly believe that he has the potential to put up 40 goals. I think that he is the most pure goal scorer on the red wings currently. Thoughts?
I figure wings offense added about .6 goals per game, and the defense a -.2 goals per game. If you place that on last year's scores you get a plus 16 pts, but almost as important opponents would be a minus 28. All the team above them are – except for sabers. That and if youth steps up again, wings will be fighting Tampa Bay for the last playoff spot. It looks like a 3 way battle for the top between panthers/bruins/leafs.
Yzerman improved the Redwings in every position, adding essentially a full second line to the forwards, a better goalie, new right-shooting defensemen, and a new coach. This should lead to significant improvements in goals for, goals against, and special teams. That said, it does not mean they arwe likely to make the playoffs. For this to happen, one team that made the playoffs last year has to fall out (probably Boston), but just as importantly, Detroit has to beat out other teams to take that spot. While the Wings improved, it is arguable the the Senators did just as much.
If you look at goals ans assists, Vrana had terrible world championships with Czechia. Only watched one of his games though so don't take my word on it

Yzerman is the best GM in hockey, no doubt about it. That being said, I think the Yzer-bias is starting to surface in these rankings. Copp is a nice player, but Perron, Matta, Piszek, are not marked improvements. I'm not even knocking Yzerman, its still what he SHOULD have done, but they are actually going to get significantly younger and more inexperienced in key spots as they start to bring in some of their highly rated prospects. There is a significant chance the Wings dont improve much at all at least in the short term in a loaded Eastern conference. And people knock Jeff Blashill because its easy to do, but let's be real and acknowledge that the Wings had some almost historically bad defenses while he was there. There is no guarantee Lalonde is a better coach.
