A lot of work to do offseason if we are going to fight a playoff spot. I keep thinking if they aren't gonna give opportunity to Bahl or any other young defense (defensive better) use the wallet big time, F. A or trade

  2. I don't want to say this team needs to be blown up but there are definitely a few considerations.
    1. Tomas Tatar – currently 30 points in 70 games, the same point total he had last season playing 20 less games. His offensive output is underwhelming for a top 6 player.

    2. Andreas Johnnson – 3 goals in a 43 game span. He can kindly pack his bags because his services are no longer needed.

    3. Pavel Zacha – Needs a change of scenery. He had 4 goals in a 28 game span. The Zacha experiment is over. He will go down as one of NJD Draft busts considering who was available that year by comparison. I wish him all the best.

    4. Mike McLeod – 0 goals in his last 21 games. There is a trend we keep seeing with all of these players. We need productive bottom six players. You can't just rely on the top 4 most productive goal scorers to bail this team out every game. Teams that do this don't make the playoffs.

    5. Ty Smith – While I am not ready to give up on him he had an Awful season defensively. This was not a sophomore slump, he was at times a defensive liability out there on the ice and got worse at times during the season. He needs to make better decisions & get back to the form he was in last season when he was nominated to the NHL all rookie team.

Goalie Situation: I think Blackwood will stay (for now) but what goalies are available in the FA market? Fluery is not going to want to play here. Do we sign Georgiev as a 1B? Kuemper is 32, Jack Campbell is another possibility but there is no Corey Schneider equivalent out there that doesn't involve moving picks and assets in a big blockbuster deal.

  3. was crawford an injury? i thought he just decided to retire.

  4. I think that we 100% move on from Johnsson, his depth scoring role can easily be replaced by better goal scorers who have a more complete game already like moving Zacha into it. If we keep him to that role of a 2 way / power forward for depth scoring takes weight off his shoulders and eliminates any need for Johnsson. I really like Vesey as a bottom 6 forward as well as kuokkanen for their defensive responsibilities but idk who we move on from to give them spots.

    Sharangovich-Hughes-Mercer
    Bratt-Hischier-Holtz
    Zacha-Boqvist-Tatar
    Bastian-McLeod-Wood

    Graves-Hamilton
    Siegenthaler-Severson
    Smith-???

    Blackwood
    Bernier

    Extra Kuokkanen Bahl Vesey

2 years from now our goalies would be Blackwood and Daws

  5. Nice video, I Agree with everything you mentioned. My biggest wish is for Fitzgerald to acquire a Tkachuk brother. Not sure if either is available via trade or what it would even cost but we could start with dangling our 1st.

  6. You guys don't get it. We need two things.

    1) An elite scorer. Just to take pressure off the kids and let them develop further, No more Tatars or Jonssons. We need a legit top 6 Foward

    2) A REAL Defensive system. Goaltending is always a product of the team in front of you. The way we play defense and position oursleves, not many goalies could have done much better.

  7. The Devils need a solid veteran RD. Someone who is capable playing on the second pairing. We also NEED to make a hard push for one of Forsberg, Miller, Bertuzzi or Tkachuk.

  8. I'm a big Severson critic, but at this point Devils are probably better off keeping him. Pair him with a bruiser defenseman like Bahl or Okhotyuck(sp?) to limit his weaknesses on D.

  9. If the Devils get lucky and win the draft lottery and get Shane Wright , Hughes and Wright would be a dynasty duo.

  10. I think they have several players they can (and should) move for whatever return they can get. Johnsson & Tatar won't get much back but their spots can easily be filled by guys brought up from Utica. Zacha should be moved for sure while he still has some value. Subban will be gone so the decision has to be made as to whether to acquire a veteran defenseman via FA or fill that spot with another call up. Severson, for as much as people still complain without paying attention to how good his season has been offensively, is one of the only vets this team has and with the right D partner, his hiccups can be compensated for. I think he should 100% be re-signed.

Once again, the primary issue is goaltending. I don't want Daws to be in NJ next season as the 1B as he still needs to have proper development time in Utica. Yes, he's played well at points but he's not quite ready, and it would do him no good to be a backup and not get enough reps to properly grow into the role he's going to be asked to fill. NJ needs to go after an experience, reliable goalie who isn't made of glass. And while I think they will probably hold onto Blackwood for at least another season or two, I wouldn't be heartbroken to see them move him and look to free agency or trades to put together a tandem that will be solid. This is absolutely the biggest issue they had this season since they essentially had minor league goaltending for the majority of the time. I still don't think Blackwood has really proved himself to be a true 1A goalie, and with his injuries and the weird behind the scenes stuff going on, he may simply not be a good fit in NJ anyway.

NJ is on the cusp of having a real shot at the playoffs, they just need a few key pieces that are possible to get this post-season. Let's cross our fingers and hope the right moves get made.

  11. We need to try and trade for John Gibson. Gibson is still hot and he's not getting any younger. He definitely won't be Anaheim's goalie when Anaheim finally remerges, so keeping him in Anaheim is just wasting his talent. He's a Vezina caliber goalie.

  12. I think the main off season goals r to definitely acquire a tendy, and a top six winger. Get rid of Zacha, Tatar and Johnsson. Maybe even add a veteran defenseman that provides solid shut down defense.

  13. new coach maybe? I know it is not all Lindy's fault but i don't think the team responds well to his system. Like when you see videos of him talking to the dressing room and you got subban on his phone and the team not listening you know it is time for a change.

  14. FIRE FITZGERALD & FIRE the entire Coaching Staff.
Unless it's a full clean house then this team will continue to be a dumpster fire.
Fitzgerald decisions on goaltending alone is a fireable offense.
