really appreciated this video about the new york rangers/islanders rivalry history! i def remember 1994, and the great islander teams of the early '80's.
i'm a red wings fan but am hoping both teams can continue the rivalry with more great battles. NYI is becoming a legit deep playoff contender, and with the rangers getting lafreniere, they should be close if not making the playoffs in 2021.

Ranger fans were so brutal that the fans in the Blue seats would chant "Go home red seats (go home)!" late in a winning game. They threw fishheads at Denis Potvin and had an urn with the #35 when the Flyers came to town. Fun times!

I have been watching hockey for over 55 years ….back when there just 6 teams in the league I rooted for the. Rangers even though,up until they lost in the finals to. Boston in 1972,they never were that good, mostly because, other than a year or two here and there Montreal dominated …but I remained loyal I had my faves back then but I liked no one more than "steady eddie. Giacomine (spelling ?) When the Islanders were "born" in 1972 inspite of their early lack of success I instantly became a fan. Here was a team from. New. York I could call my own that I was in on from the "ground floor" a la Jets Mets. But through all the years of being a die hard Islander fan I never hated the. Rangers they remained in a special place in my.happy memories ….one thing I will never understand is the meanness showed by the Ranger fans towards one of my all time favorite players and other than.maybe Bobby. Orr probably the greatest defenseman ever … Potvins. Cups 🗽

The New York Islanders drought is now on the clock and is about to reach 40 years w/out. a Stanley Cup come next Spring and the New York Rangers are as well on the clock with their drought w/out. the Stanley Cup reaching 1 year shy of 30 years come next Spring! The years of 1983 (Islanders) & 1994 ( Rangers) seems like yesterday but in reality seems like a long, long time when next Spring of 2023 rolls around! 40 & 29 years hard to believe! Time flies quickly!
