Severson is getting traded for a top 6 winger .
Thought they were gonna try Reilly Walsh out.. Poor Jack needs a new roommate, think he can afford it, next year will b Luke.. Fitzy isnt leaving anything to chance this year..
i like the trade for the devils and we have a soild defense also prospects to now hopefully we can sign our rfa
I really liked Ty as a prospect in Spokane and his rookie year. Definitely had a big drop off but this is a good deal. Fitz making moves!
NJ doing good! Cant hold potential players forever that never takes the next step like Zacha! I like Zacha and Smith both can turn out to be good NHL players but did not work in NJ and we need new blood in the team. Also NJ D prospect pool is stacked already
This screams the devils to trade Severson.
Nemec should spend the year in Utica…. No need to rush him. Severson and Graves are both UFAs next year with Siegs being an RFA… leaving room for both Hughes and Nemec if ready. The Brendan Smith contract is such where he can be beaten out for a spot by Bahl, Walsh, or Okotiuk for a 6 spot.
Sad to see Ty go but last year wasn’t pretty and he was often a liability defensively, I had kind of thought they would give him the first part of the year to show something but Marino is a bit more of a known quantity.
Fitz isn't done, since missing out on Jonny he's gonna do whatever he can to keep his job. Without a doubt he's an amazing GM. This team will have long term success.
This is an excellent trade. Marino is locked up for 5 more years. Pitt gave him a huge deal, he just needs a change of scenery. Same for Ty smith. I lived smith but I would have done this deal in a second. Teams are desperate to dump money- this was a nice pick up.
I watched Ty play for team Canada and remember being underwhelmed by him then. But I figured Devils should give him a chance. But really he’s never done anything to change my original impressions of him.
The Flames just lost their best forward, why does anyone possibly think they’ll let go of Mathew Katchuk?!?!?
Without Severson, all of the backend offense will have to come from Dougie Hamilton, who I’ll remind you, after his return from his jaw, was far from the same player. The Devils are not a high scoring team, so why get rid of 1 of the 2 offensive forwards you do have? I believe the move to trade Smith, was largely due in part to his massive sophomore slump, and to fill his spot with someone potentially more defensively competent. Brenden Smith is a fill in for PK. Our two up in comers on the the blue line are 2-3 seasons out still.
Yes the Devils need more help up front, I would be stoked if they could trade johnsson in some sort of package deal. Imo there really aren’t a lot more chips to play.
The hockey skate down- dyou think the devils are a playoff team as of today?how many points will they get this year with this team?
It's a good trade and it sets up an opportunity to trade Severson and get something for him. If we had a compilation video of how many times Severson scored on NJ, most people would be shocked. He's improved and a lot of teams would want him right now… he's only got a year left. I'm really disappointed that NJ did not get a top 10 forward yet but hopefully it will happen and our goalies will kick some ass.
How is this a good trade? I don’t know enough about him but his stats don’t say he’s better than Smith who was a top 10 pick. Im asking bc I honestly don’t know how this is good.
Love your videos man keep it up do you think Holtz makes the team this yr especially after all our forward moves ?
Ty Smith sucked, trade is better for the Devils
The devils upgraded subban and ty smith with john marino and brendan smith. People will prob argue subbans better than brendan, but brendan will bring a more steady presence in the defensive end. John marino is good in both ends. ty is better offensively, but a big liability on defense. I like this trade because the defense should be able to help the goalies out more this upcoming season and be able to transition up the ice more as well. They just need a top 6 winger and this will be the most competitive team since 2012.
I like Ty and I hope he does well in Pitt, but we won this trade by a lot. Ty has upside but he was one of the worst D-men in the league last season.
I am shocked too! I figured Smith was going To be traded with Smith added and a bunch of other guys knocking on the door. I like Marino but not his contract. Like you mentioned it will be interesting what they do with all these defensemen. Hopefully another big trade is coming up front.
I like Fitzgerald work. The only thing that hurts me is Johnson, he can't take a spot this year, he can't, it hurts >_<
Feel bad for Severson, looks like he’s on the way out after this year
Trade Severson for a solid winger
Seems like Severson could be on the move. Wouldn't like to see him go honestly.
I was so happy when I learned about this trade. Ty Smith frustrated me just about every game last season. Solid top 6 defense to start the season! Regarding all our young talented D-men that may be ready to play NHL games, remember that there are always injuries so they will get a chance to play.
I’m a longtime Devs fan and really like the moves Fitz is making
The NJ Devils have a log jam of defensive prospects. It is a good problem to have.
Luke Hughes
Simon Nemec
Seamus Casey
Kevin Bahl
Reilly Walsh
Nikita Othotyuk
Shakir Mukhamadullin
Michael Vokujevic
Ethan Edwards….etc.
Ty Smith was expendable. I wish him all the best and hopefully Pittsburgh can help him get his groove back.
Ty Smith played his way right out of NJ, a horrid season when he needed some semblance of defensive hockey. His hockey IQ is questionable at best, and he was getting run over physically. With Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Bahl, Seamus Casey all getting closer this trade makes perfect sense. AND, I like Marion’s defensive game and his hockey IQ seems vastly better. Good move Fitzy, now a sniper please 😃.
Penguins fan and don't know Ty Smith at all. Marino is one of those guys you keep rooting for, shows a lot of upside and potential, but hasn't reached it yet, maybe a change of scenery will help him. He had an outstanding rookie season but since then, has looked average in his own end (at actual stuff you want defensemen to be good at like covering players, blocking passes, and antipication) and his offense has never really blossomed as expected. i think for the Pens they just needed to move his cap hit to make some room for Petry. probably one of those trades that can possibly benefit both teams, i don't ever really agree with saying a certain team "won" a trade a day after it is made, obviously both teams will feel they "won" it otherwise they wouldn't have agreed to it.
Win/win I think. We get someone maybe a bit further along and dependable and Ty has an opportunity to improve on a team that has some strong veteran presence. Are people saying we gave up too quick the same that think Fitz should be fired for things goin south by December? Defense(and goaltending) = no longer an area we should take any chances.
