I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be just Caulfield for the pick. It would be Caulfield and probably the later Montreal 1st round picks.
Completely off topic but it sounds like Gaudreau isn't resigning with the Flames. I really hope Fitz makes a huge push and we get him.
You made a valid point with Caulfield still developing and wanting someone fully established, personally I think I see more elite level talent/potential for Caulfield and think he is more of a lock to reach it (he'd score 50 every healthy year on Jacks wing). Now is he worth us trading the 2oa straight up? I wouldn't say so but he's probably as valuable as like the 5th. -not necessarily saying we should trade the pick for him just trying to assess true value.
Mtl fan here, nothing but love for NJ but hell the fuck no you ain't taking Cole even if you want him!! We keeping Cole! How about our late first round, Petry, Hoffman, Drouin and a second this year or next for that 2nd overall?
I'll be honest Devils should have traded the 4th pick last year but we all know why they didn't.
GM Fitz job is done in fact he should have been clipped by now as evidence by signing Tatar not to mention that none of our draft picks other than Mercer fit into the current system under Coach Ruff.

Cole caufield is an untouchable piece in montreal, he had confidence Problem and was used in bottom 6 role with old coach ducharme. He will develop into a debrincat type of player and proved hes a true goal scorer with being on pace for like 40 goals with st louis But New Jersey already has that type of player in Alexander holtz so i cant See any way this Happen and montreal doesnt have the piece To make that trade for number 2 their best roster player except suzuki and caufield are Josh Anderson and jeff petry and neither of These Guys are worth a 2nd Overall pick slafkovsky should be the guy
A reasonable trade for your second pick is Montreals 33 pick this year and their 1st round pick next year. Everyone know Montreal is gonna suck this year whether they get Slafkovsky or not. Most of their top talent won't be ready to come up until 2023-24 including Wright. You would have a shot at the Bedard sweepstakes or Michkov. That's the trade most pro's are talking about. Maybe the deal includes Allan as well because you need goaltending. Of course their are other teams to deal with as well. Any deal Jersey make for that pick should include a 1st next year from a bottom dweller. If you had Bedard you could trade him for Matthews for instance or just about anyone else. Not only that but the top 5 are projected superstars and that could run as deep as the top 10. The top 2 players are generational.

Lol. Habs have already said they won't even entertain offers on caufield and suzuki. Caufield only played twice on first line and then dropped down to 3rd 4th line only getting 7 minutes a game on a very bad canadian's team. New couch minutes goals
This is a very, very bad take. Caufield played the 1st and maybe the 2nd game this year on the first line and was placed on a grinder line with low minutes. Any time Habs had a 5-3 Caufield was hardly used, if at all. His stats reflect on the coach. He made a mistake he got punished. Coaching change prob gave him confidence yes, but he was immediately placed on the top line and placed in a position for his playing style and he just did what he does for the 2nd half of the season. Anyone who watched and scouted Caufield knows this. He's going to have a long, elite career. 40 goal seasons should be normal and expected for him as soon as the 23-24 season.
caufield was on the 4th line 10 minutes a night the first 30 games and he still scored the most goals of all rookies (23 goals) in the last 37 games lmaooo. Devils ain't getting him, habs won't trade a 40 goals scorer for a uncertain 2nd overall pick.
