  1. I love hockey and love great hockey players regardless of what team they play for. BUT as a life long Habs fan (I know they suck at times), I'd love to see Matthews go ANYWHERE… outside of the Atlantic Division! Lol!

  2. I think he may go to LA they will be on the rise and have so many guys locked up and young guys they could win for awhile with him

  3. Toronto is approaching 2 decades without winning a playoff series. They've gotten better but so has other teams. Also I think players are leaning toward playing in the States with the whole pandemic scare. Could happen again and travel across country borders may get restricted again

  4. No one ever mentions that Austin Matthews was born in San Ramon which is actually about a 30-45 minute drive from San Jose so he may still have family in Nor Cal too

  5. I think it has to do with Canada's government, people are way too heavily taxed and insane vax mandates as well. Who needs it? Especially U.S born players like those being described.

  6. He is counting the days ! He is gone ! You can see his crippling frustration in play . Leafs are my team but they just don't have the heart to Finnish . And it's not them personally ..it's the toxic external, environmental forces that they play around at home .

  7. I wouldn't blame him for leaving. If in, at the end of his current contract, 8 years the Leafs don't win a cup or even get past the first round then almost any team in the US would be better then Toronto. Having Scooby Dubas as the GM has become a joke and a waste of time.

  8. If i were the leafs I'd trade Matthews, Knies… Any Americans and stick to drafting fellow Canadians and Euros….More than enough home grown talent right here… Gaudreau, and Tkachuk just opened up a Pandoras box.

  9. I heard that Matthews is bring a law suit against LegoRocks99. Should be fun to sit back and watch a big boot squash an ant.

  10. This isn't new. Rumour has been around since he signed with the Leafs……just a matter of time. He's gotta be sick of Toronto by now.

  11. You must without a doubt the dumbest human being alive. He has a contract and when he has fulfilled the terms of his contract he may leave as per the agreement between the league and the player's association. Much like Gaudreau and Tavares before him he is playing out contracts not serving life sentences in prison for God sakes.

  12. Unless we trade Tavares, we will lose Matthews when he asks for $15mil x 7-8 years. Time to blame DubAss.

  13. If Auston goes Hollywood with Byfield, Clarke, Fiala, Durzi, Kaliyev, Turcotte, Doughty & Kopitar (team friendly deal), it’s gonna be GREAT for the NHL & print money.

  14. Not many players stay with a team these days. the Stanley cup is like the holy grail these days and every team has there eyes 👀 on the prize. Plus traveling takes a lot out of players. Just Look At the new york rangers. They had no Rest during the finals
((JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES, THEY LOOKED TIRED)).

  15. If AM34 left like that I think I would be done with hockey. As Canada is apparently at such a disadvantage it's not worth following.

  16. Not going to happen. He’s re-signing with Toronto. Y’all are just jealous that the leafs have a franchise player like AM34. Get real lmao.

  17. It’s very likely Matthew’s heads out. Signing a contract that goes right to the UFA window tells you everything

  18. As Leaf fans we’ve known since he signed a 5 year deal that it was probably the end. Definitely not shocking! But McDavid comes home 2 years after that so it’s all good!

  19. Even Auston Matthews in Arizona the coyotes are unlikely to be more than a .500 team no guarantee they make the playoffs.

  20. Its hard to say right now .If Leafs finally overcome their playoff deamons and go on a deep run ( Conference finals at least ) then I can see him singing an extension .Another first round exit and he is most likely gone .The Leafs CANNOT under any circumstances .let Mathrews walk out the door for nothing in return .If they do not have his signarure on an extension by JUly 1 2023 ( the day he is eligible to sign an extension ) then we will all know what his intentions are .At that point let the bidding war begin .That would be the absolute biggest trade in Leaf history

  21. well he know the team is not looking to win the cup, its obvious, just look at the players that has left the team, they went on to win the cup with other teams. the toronto maple laughs are a joke

  22. Matthews is the HIGHEST paid Hockey Player in the NHL, not because of his contract, but because he plays for the Leafs!! Endorsements, Sponsers, Signing Bonuses, Clothing Brands, Appearances, he's Commercialized, and he even does commercials lol. He wouldn't be ANY NEAR his stardom if he played for somewhere else.

  23. He's definitely gone soon, lm thinking maybe Vegas? No great American player wants to be stuck in Canada!!

  24. The article is obviously pure clickbait speculation without any substance, bit since we are on the subject:
Imagine Arizona with Bedard, Cooley and Matthews down the middle (or one of those as a winger), going from playing in a college building to being Stanley Cup favorites in a few years…….

  25. Kings ! He’d fit in quite well and will be given a warm welcome in LA.

  26. Matthews will end up playing for a California team. Sorry, Toronto.
