  1. This is worst than last year, and there's no coaching change coming and no big signing possible. Hey David, how's that 9.25 for Darnell Nurse going?? I say it's at least a 4.5 per overpayment!!
Connor Mcdavid literally looks pissed off and uninspired by all this AGAIN, just like this point last year. This team and organization is faulted at its core. This is the final straw and it's obvious now. They have compound ruined this opportunity from get go since drafting him, top to bottom. If I'm Connor McDavid I am demanding a trade after this season.

  2. How many times are we going to hear the words, “They just made a few mistakes and that’s what beat them.”? This team is a genius at making mistakes when it matters. They are too careless and too slow to become desperate! And Woodcroft’s comment that “hockey is a game of mistakes” does not solve anything! … Have you looked at Woodcroft’s face on the bench over the last few games? It tells you all that you need to know. Where’s the emotion and urgency on this team to start games?? … And, no, "if they play like that again," they won't win – because they'll again make mistakes at key times in the game and will not be desperate enough from the beginning of the game. Apparently you disagree with both the post-game shows on TSN 1260 and on 630 CHED – because neither of those shows let the Oilers off the hook the way that you just did. … "Expected goals"? – how about "Expected start to the game"?

  3. Holland has shown signs of a regressing cognitive ability .. much like joe Biden. I’m not even kidding, and probably the reason he signed nurse to that contract

  4. I didn't see a lot of the game, watched some, listened to a fair bit. Every time I saw Pulujarvi with the puck he was getting rid of it like he was afraid! He doesn't even skate with the puck any more!
This was overall a pathetic game and the first period was sooooo boring I just went out to work and listened on the radio!

Can Bob Stauffer be our coach ffs?!

  5. Too depressing to even listen to this breakdown!
I'll listen to the Rangers game (because SN Now will most likely Black it out!) but I won't be expecting much until they demonstrating that they're worth thinking about!

Also, at this point, yes McDavid is awesome but I'd rather have 2 or 3 great forwards for his 12 million, in the same way that I'd rather see 3 $3m defenceman rather than that Albatross DN!!

  6. I think Bruce is right. The boys played their butts off and might have turned the corner late in the game.
    Campbell was ok.

  7. Is it time to find a goalie whisperer? It's mind boggling how Dustin Swartz always
remains employed in his position while just about every other position has seen turnover. I rather see Mike Smith as the goalie coach. It's also time to trade Pulijujarvi and get another power forward like a Josh Anderson. Come on Kenny get after it. It's too bad the Oilers missed out on Ryan Reaves because that's another area of need. Is it time to bring up Broberg slot him in the 3rd pairing soon? If he is not ready & Carson Soucey is available then why haven't they pulled the trigger. This Lafferty that Stauffer talks about should be gotten asap. This team either needs a kick start or a shake up. imo

  8. Great to hear of the strong effort – in spite of disappointment last game… Score should have been closer -Does look like Smith should have been given much more credit for the team progress vs being fired along w Keith -so Holland could have more money to spend.. have hit really strong Goalies. Hope they can get a pt vs NYR & stay above .500. Bouchard seems a serious problem which is a shame – as team needs to develop someone… Broberg seems of the same cast….. ?

  9. very good comments towards the end re the D… need to replace Russell, Keith, Larssen… clearly Holland has been gambling…. ie mostly winging it on wild hunches…. fortunately 2 have worked out so far; Hyman&Kane… otherwise he has really put the organization against the wall… no trades possible now & a long list of hires that are not working. a shame

  10. Ethan Bear scored the winner versus Colorado tonight…His 2nd of the season with less games played than Bouchard….It was a mistake trading him and keeping Bouchard…..Hes 10x better defensively than Bouchard. Does most of the penalty killing for Canucks.

  11. Lol you can play as hard as as you want and show "resolve", doesn't matter when you cant get wins. This team will miss the playoffs. You guys are too soft on this team.

  12. The Oilers seem to be playing pond hockey as compaired to the opposition playing with structure- unlike when Jay Woodcroft came in. Have our stars taken over the team again? Seemingly doing what they want vs what the team needs them to do?
The buy in doesn't seem to be there.

  13. David you don’t know shit from rhubarb…stop acting like you know hokey dude .

  14. The regression from last year is remarkable. I would have thought Woodcroft would be demanding they get back to some simple time honored fundamentals. Specifically, giving and taking a simple timely pass. This teams ability to take a loose puck, and rather then make an obvious pass to a teammate, flip it like it was supposed to be a lucky pancake directly into massive turnover territory is epic. An amazing number of just flat out bad pass's…Again.. Wow. If they go 2 games under .500, I will be asking people who they think is most likely to be traded. The Pressure on Holland builds, The Plot Thickens!)

  15. This is the Dave Tippet Oilers from last year…. defensive breakdowns everywhere…. team lacks a leader and misses Duncan Keith badly~ Darnell Nurse IS not that guy…. 28-29th ranked defense IS NOT A TEAM headed in the right direction Bruce ~ I'm sorry…. Isles up 3-0 played prevent…. Oilers 3-7 in the last 10. A lot of good individuals do not make a team….this team is not going far having to score 4,5 and 6 goals to win nhl games….As great as Connor is he cant score 2-3 points a night to bail this team out….

  16. The oilers outshot the Islanders. Their goalie made the difference. What is the argument then.?

  17. I really don't think the Oilers deserved this game, no matter what the expected goals or grade-A chances were. The fact is: the Oilers AGAIN failed to show up when the puck dropped on the 1st period. Zero shots in the first 11 minutes of the game. Sure, they created some chances with PP's and in the third period when the game was over. But they need to create those desperation chances in the first 10 minutes of games.

8 even strength goals by the Oilers' bottom-six in TWENTY games this season. (To put this in perspective, it took six games in 1983-84 for the bottom-six to score 8 goals.)

  18. Lack of skill down the line up,..plays dying on the stick of too many Oilers,..no finish,..I could go on. It all comes down to having a talented team throughout. By now, we should be seeing a team that can bring it on a consistent basis,..a team that is skilled defensively, and in net,..one that is ready to go deep in the playoffs, and a team that gives its fans a good feeling moving forward. I don't see it yet. Your top players can't do it all. Seems to be the same old story in Oil country. I agree with many of the posters here who say,..overpayment for a few prevents balance throughout.

  19. Thank you guys. I like Broberg and he will be on this team but is he the tough rugged dman the Oilers need? Or maybe in the new NHL Broberg is exactly what they need. Thoughts

  20. That’s the problem Bruce, they start too late. Only when they are down that’s when they put some energy and effort into the game. That’s why they had so many shots in the 3rd. You have to come out with some fire and passion for the game, I haven’t seen that. Mcdavid comments were honest and true. Something the coach needs do as well. Hope something changes soon.

  21. Common to all goals is losing puck battles. This has been an issue with this team forever. Puck goes into the corner you can almost guarantee that the Oilers will not be coming out with the puck.

  22. The leadership needs to set them down and ask simply "how great do you really want to be?"

Because the early efforts are dismal most games. Two goals from turnovers in the offensive end.
How much do they really want to win because they look like they're a rebuild team trying to find chemistry.

  23. Josh Archibald has more points than 5 of our bottom 6 players. Lol

  24. I think J.P. needs to try holding the puck a bit to make a play. All I've seen is a bit of physical play but very limited. Certainly not his style.
I think if he held the puck a bit other then the panicked hot potato play he could grab back a bit of confidence back.
All the best to him but his numbers are not there for a top six. Especially with these line mates.
