Would have been great if he came back to the Metsies under a reasonable contract. When he pitched he was great, the best. At 35, and his extensive injury history it would have been foolish for Uncle Steve to give him a five year contract with that history. Maybe he'll go injury free and make thirty starts in '23 and win his typical 10 games…. I doubt it for '24 and beyond. A last place team can afford an attraction to fill seats. I would sign Bassitt. He showed up and pitched well every start. Also would sign Rodon, and one of the top Japanese pitchers. Hopefully, Nimmo is not greedy and wants to stay a Met, but with Boris all bets are off. Use to be baseball was a "boys game played by men", now it's played by money hungry big fragile babies…..LGFG!
Glad this is over. At this stage of his career, the Mets could not count on de Grom. Let's get someone we can rely on.
Jake went with the most money because he knows his arm won't hold up and Rangers made a mistake. He's going to a team that finished 38 games back of world champion Astros . Mets weren't going past 3 years and I agree on not giving that kind of a contract to a guy that has only pitched 26 games over the last 2 years and never wants to go past 6 innings anymore.

What perplexes me is like Syndargaurd , Degrom comes back from an injury and his first game back hits 101mph on the radar gun in the first inning. The 101 games the Mets won in 2022 , Degrom was involved with only 6 of those games according to news reports. Thanks for the years Mr.Degrom….it was awesome having you in New York. The time was right for both the Mets and Jason to part ways.

As a Phillies fan I'm REALLY annoyed that the Mets didn't match this crazy contract offer.
The Mets can't possibly have too many aging 35+ YO pitchers making close to $40 million per year
as far as I'm concerned. I was kind of hoping they would resign Degrom and Verlander too
since they apparently now have an unlimited amount of money to waste.

What is the smarter choice? Degrom for 5 yrs at age 34 or Verlander for 3 yrs at age 40 which reports are verlander wants 3 yr deal which is why he’s not going to Houston. This guy is saying it’s smart to move on from degrom but now looking at an aging 40 yr old who got blasted in the playoffs! Mets fans mad at degrom 2 runs in 6 innings? Verlander got crushed.
Thankful for Jake for his time with the Mets, would have been nice if he stayed, but I'm not broken hearted that he left. You could tell he was just not happy being in New York anymore. The player Id be very upset if they did not resign is Nimmo. He is equal to Mookie and Roger Cedeno as the best leadoff hitter in franchise history.
