  1. They gonna sign dubass to a team friendly hometown discount contract of 8 years 11 million per year!!! BOOK IT!!!

  2. You know what is going to happen. They are going to fail again in the playoffs. So, you have to ask yourself, is another great regular season considered a success (thereby leading to a new contract)?

  3. Yes, let him walk! We all know what the outcome will be in round one. It’s still the exact same team!

  4. Only sign him if Leafs can win the first round. Do these players want this GM? Let the players playoff performance decide if this experiment continues.

  5. ..rewarding mediocrity is the problem…the "core" is overpaid and under performs in meaningful games…maybe losing for so long clouds the vision….unload the figure skaters and find a tom wilson or 2…good luck

  6. It's hilarious how delusional you guys are… 🤣🤣🤣
You're happy that the leafs are a development team for the rest of the league!?? Hahahahaha!!!! 😆😆😆

  7. What if it’s Dubas that didn’t sign the extension he was offered? Not that the Leafs didn’t offer one.

  8. Playoffs DUMBO nothing else matters they could take the last playoff as far as I am concerned but wheb they have a playoff run then we're having sucess

  9. that is a nice, glass half-full take lol
we didnt run anyone out of town…
we knew they were good and did it anyway lol
    yes sign dubas.

    merry xmas boys!

  10. The Leafs are what happens when you have one of the leagues best development staff

  11. I don't know if NHL franchisees will be all over paying their GM an outwardly salary. It's a business, and if they can pay someone cheaper…who has a bit of a better result in the Playoffs, they might not see the development of players as a signing point.

But MLSE should re-sign Dubas… immediately

  12. I am so confused why these guys all of a sudden think Dubas should get resigned, like guys he has failed to build a team that goes past round 1 and guess what it is going to happen again this year this team is fucked against either Tampa or Boston unless some miracle happens, and they want Dubas resigned so that what he can keep not building a team that can get out of the first round, like this is ridiculous the way this team was built by Dubas was bad and unless Toronto wins round 1 he should not stay, also he fucked up big time on Matthews contract like giving him that much money for just 5 years is ludicrous and no other team has done that, cause it is so stupid to sign a guy for so much for just 5 years, and if he chooses to leave who would blame him.

  13. Man. Leafs are like the Oakland A’s but with money. Development team for the league. And this is a good thing cuz it’s the leafs? Interesting take.

  14. I would let him walk. I think he’s a good GM, but that aside, he inherited a team that could already make the playoffs, and had a lot of talent, for every great move he makes, like signing Bunting or Kampf or the goaltending tandem this year, I don’t think they make up for signing Mrazek and then trading a 1st to get rid of him, or trading a first for Nick Foligno. I think they should have stuck with Lou Lamorello longer, and then given the job to Mark Hunter. I hope Dubas pulls a cup out of his ass and I’m proven wrong, but I don’t think this team is built for the playoffs.

  15. If they don't resign Dubas, there are going to be 20+ teams that instantly want to sign him the moment he is fired and will be happy to ditch their current GM.

Winning a cup is difficult. You can actually build the best team and still not win it – you probably only have a 20% chance at the very high end in any given year, and if you are in seeds 2-8, you only have a 10% chance win the cup. This means you probably need 10 playoff runs to give you a reasonable chance to win a cup on average.

All the nonsense about the 1st round presents a lot of noise I feel because when 3 out of the top 5 teams are in your division. Winning the first round is usually a 50/50 split and is equivalent to a Stanley Cup final in terms of the difficulty of your opponent. It's not like the Oilers beating the Kings like last year, which is a comparison people love to make. The Leafs would destroy the Kings, and many other seeds that make it into the playoffs.

I feel like Dubas makes many excellent decisions as a GM, and I'd be very nervous about a new GM coming in and not making better year-to-year decisions compared to what Dubas is doing right now.

I feel like a lot of people just want to punish him for signed contracts a long time ago. But two things are true. One, even if these were mistakes, he has not recreated them since and probably won't in the future. But two, he signed those just before the pandemic before the flat cap era. Imagine if no pandemic existed and the Leafs had 6+ million extra cap last year and this year – do you really think the team wouldn't be the best team in the NHL? They are already a top 5 team with the flat cap – imagine what a steadily increasing cap would have done.

Fire Dubas at your own peril. 20 other teams will be lining up to hire him because they aren't bitter and stupid the way some Leaf fans are. They will recognize all the really good things he has done and realize he is better than their current GM and will hire him, especially given how young he is.

  16. No, you cannot extend Dubas' contract till the leafs at least pass the first round. Jasse is absolutely correct that the team makes everyone looks great similarly management group will graduate from here and so great outside. I think Shanahan made leafs a training ground for everyone.

  17. You guys hit the nail in the head

Dubas and the team does excellent job
most fans are blind seeing it

thanks guys for pointing them out and putting into words.

Just look at Oilers is classic example
Plus those players left the team should thanks the organization to prep them up for success.

  18. I have always said to my fellow Leaf fan friends… The Leafs have been a farm team for other NHL teams for many years.

  19. Fire Dubas he was handed a team of stars and other than re-arranging the chairs on the titanic hasn't accomplished anything. Look at the teams that have beat us in the wild card and first round. Montreal, Tampa, Columbus.

  20. Dubas at least gets the right to use the inflated cap that has eluded him for 3 seasons.

  21. Regular season success is just not enough, for the richest hockey team in the world. It does not matter how old your GM is… he can be 15… he can be 97 … it does not matter. What did he win so far? Nothing? Oh ok! Does not matter of they find diamants in the rough… other teams does that too by the way and the win. Ask Pittsburgh for example… at the end… the bottom line is… will they win at least one round this year… if not they have to change more than just flipping third and fourth liners

  22. So, does what you discussed actually mean that too many people place the elite way too far above the ham and eggers?

  23. He Dubas will get extended when they win a round. He has put together a regular season juggernaut. When the playoffs come they can't close the deal. Why is that ? Many of us have an opinion thus far I'm watching to see whatore he adds come the deadline. Winning the regular season setting team records is great but it all means nothing till they win a round.

  24. the leafs is to soft to go on a deep run, wont win multiple physical playoff hockey series. but sure give dubas another contract

  25. The Leafs real bane is not salary cap, but the income tax gap. Betteman, and company, should take the income tax factor into consideration as to what each team's cap ought to be, or there will always be discrepancies!

  26. This fragile garbage collection of players could and likely will come unglued and be out in the 1st again easily!!!!!!!!!

  27. Re-sign him ffs. He's turned this organization around and has been the best GM since Pat Quinn era. We won't get anyone better.
