I’d rather have him walk than pay him 9.5mil.
I think this is fake news and just a tactic that player agents often use to get them a better deal. I'm even doubtful there's actually been an offer at this point.
As a Wings Fan, I Love Larkin.
But we cannot pay him a top center line contract. I want to see him here for his entire career. But even as the captain, you cannot over value yourself based on solely that.
Idk what will happen. But I do trust Yzerman’s vision for the team.
I'm betting on fake news.. But I guess it's possible.
I find it hard to believe a Michigan boy would be looking for top dollar from a rebuilding team, there's certain teams you're there for the team rather than the dollar..
Ya know, the opposite of Ken Holland's Oilers lol
Cue the Larkin for Horvat talk. lol
I don’t see over 8mil
We need another Zetterberg
Fact detroit is not in the position to lose Larkin. fact until raymond Larkin has not had legitimate line mates. and you still have not drafted a center of his caliber.
I have no doubt that he'll re-sign with Detroit. Who ever leaked that they are far apart, I suspect it's just a negotiation tactic.
yzerman really is a brutal gm lol
He's not only the Wings best players, he also has shown real leadership this year. He wants to stay in Detroit, yes Detroit has cap room, but that room needs to be there when Raymond, Seider, and Kubialik get resigned in a couple of years and Stevie didn't make the situation any easier with the Copp and Chariot contracts. Maybe he needs a history lesson, both Lidstrom and Yzerman took a discount so that we'd have cap space. I have no doubt that a deal will get done. Stevie and his agent are playing a game of chicken. Stevie went through negations with Stamkos. A deal will get done, everyone needs to just calm down.
Redwings do not have a lot of big contracts. Larkin deserves 8M and that will look good in 2 years when the cap goes up and he can slot into the second line Center if they can ever find a first line center.
Mock trade:
To SEA: Dylan Larkin
Filip Zadina (IR)
To DET: 2023 2nd rd
Shane Wright
Alexander Wennberg
2023 draft simulation results for DET:
2nd pick: Leo Carlsson
Larks is a glorified 1C, if we pay him actual 1C money we might as well write away any future stanley cup in the next 8 years. He is in his prime and peaking at 30 goals, either sign a team friendly deal or let us trade you.
If Larkin does not resign it will be devastating to the franchise and yzerman’s first true huge loss. Like it or not, Larkin is the heart and soul of the current red wings and losing him would set this team into another full rebuild. I think we’d be looking at another 3 to 4 years of pain minimum
Larkin in worth more here in Detroit than on the open market.
Info that Larkin talks are far apart is exaggerated. Its normal that talks regarding new contract for best players took longer and tooks sometimes past after the contract expires. Larkin is in unique position, he or his agent simply take advantage of the situation – he is the captain, leader of team, main face of team as Red Wings organization. There is currently nobody in Red Wings who have potential to have 70 + per season points apart from Seider or Raymond, ok maybe in future Marco Kasper. Given take that they give at the beginning of the season 5 year contract for Andrew Copp with salary 5.6 mil per year and given take that he currently have 28 and his max could be about 50 points, its valid point from Larkin side give him at least n 8 mil. But like I say, its not uncommon that top player is not signed 6 weeks before end of contract. Its also not only about Larkin, there is currently about 14 players which ends the contract.
In a perfect world, they sign Pasternak and Larkin. That would really solidify the middle.
Good player yes, star player no. Maybe 7m?
Right now Larkin is ranked 40th in salary for centers. It appears he is asking top 12 center salary along the lines of Seguin, Point, and Eichel. If Larkin wants more than this then huh well now what? Yet Larkin controls this narrative with his NTC that just kicked in this season. Unfortunate timing. Yzerman faced this late contract negotiation situation with TB but they had a loaded team and Stamkos gave in to reason. Detroit may be facing Rebuild Chapter II.
The problem Larkin will have is that captains of the Red Wings have, in recent history, taken a discount for the betterment of the team and that's an expectation.

Did anyone else laugh when the in-game crowd started to boo after Lego read the headline
I think we’re overreacting. He wants to be here, his family is he, he’s always been here. I’m sure he will milk Stevie for what he can. We all know Stevie won’t overpay. He will probably sign for 8-8.5.
