Hopefully this squashes this story and no suspension is in order.

  2. Damage control… Can’t hurt I guess.

Glad he apologized, I didn’t think it was intentional but it is still a bad look.

Last night appeared completely out of character as I had never been more stunned in recent memory.

To everyone’s relief, this post shows his humble character will stay forever. Very classy and mature way to handle a situation where you know you fucked up, and I’m sure he has already accepted the incoming discipline.

How can you not like this kid. Even in mistakes he is the epitome of class. Love him.

Good on you Key. This feels like it’s genuine.

This kid is a keeper. Owns his actions – class act

  8. DJZbad93

Pretty much what I expected – wasn’t intentional and he apologized both publicly and to Doughty personally. Kid has a good head on his shoulders so I hope this doesn’t affect him down the line.

He seems like a good dude, I give him the benefit of the doubt. Hockey players are always spitting anyway, bound to happen at some point.

I think if you just looked at another angle, you can clearly see it wasn’t intentional. Its not in slow motion, but the first 10 seconds of the video shows another angle. Miller removed his glove and was adjusting his pants at the time he spit. Bizarre thing to do if you were intentionally spitting on someone.

Crazy what slo-mo 4k does to a narrative.

Deserves 3 games will get 1 game.

Classy response by a classy guy who felt terrible of what transpired. For him to reach out to the opponent directly affected and to issue a statement of regret/apology, they reinforce my belief that there was never a deliberate malicious intent. Please stop vilifying him if you happen to be one that still is.

As hard as I was on him about it, I believe him. The video looks bad but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe that’s some homer bias but we shall see if something like that happens again.

I grew up playing pick up basketball, mostly all summer in the heat. We all picked up a bad habit from the older kids to habitually spit. I carried that with me for awhile, would just spit in the grass for whatever reason. One time I was walking on campus in college with some friends and spit like I always do. Except this time a girl behind me that I didn’t see was rushing to class. Had she been walking like a .5 mph more my spit would have landed right on her leg. I apologized for the close call and she was obviously disgusted but it was just a habit thing. I was on auto pilot, didn’t think about it at all. Obviously not the same thing but reminded of the situation.

Having watched Key, he doesn’t strike me as a dirty player. I think it was a bizarre incident but I doubt we’ll see much more behavior like this from Miller. Consequences are fair, even if it was an accident it landed on someone. But I’m putting on my best unbiased hat and chalking it up to an off night brain fart for Key.

Perfect apology. Short and to the point. He’s not the kind of guy to do something like this and is almost never aggressive after the whistle so I, for one, believe him.

  17. In today’s world where no one ever takes responsibility, this is really great to see. The fact that he came out right away and seems sincere demonstrates that he knows it was a terrible reaction. No excuses.

For all the times the Rangers have fucked up with 1st round keeps, keep this one in mind. Keep him signed long term too.

  19. ChaWolfMan

I am not condoning spitting in someone’s face, but if he gets a suspension, how come Marchand can repeatedly Lick another players face?

  20. jmaypro

from the perspective of safety they’ll probably think along the lines of « did this guy do something unsafe? severity level i.e. did he mean to do it? either way we gotta take action »

  21. gleyberhood25

I believe him. I also hope this helps his play improve
