This fucking rules. They can keep him or trade him and get value back. No issues with this deal at all.

Ya that’s awesome. Could even flip him at the draft now too or at next years deadline

He’s one hell of a backup. There’s no point in bringing up Askarov for him to ride the bench behind Saros, so this is a great deal

Cheap! I thought someone would go upwards of $3 mil on the open market and maybe he could be a starter on a few teams.

Interesting.. maybe Trotz thinks we can be competitive next season with the right coach and if we aren’t, we trade Lank.

So glad to have him back, he’s been great this year, and it lets Asky cook a bit longer in the AHL

This just moves the do we trade him or Saros at the deadline discussion out another year while also giving Askarov another year to develop at the AHL level.

I truly believe that in a 3 year timeline Askarov will be the starter in Nashville. However, I’m glad that we now know that they don’t have to force him, even as a backup, to play goalie in front of what might be a bad NHL team with NHL competition and can instead have him in net for a pretty good AHL team with AHL competition. We don’t want the Preds to do to him what the Flyers did to Carter Hart and kill his development/confidence.

Ok cool so guess we’re not tanking. Unless he’s cover for when Saros is traded in the off season…

But for real having two great goalies is not a recipe for a top draft pick. The goal should be to maximize pain in the short term to get a couple years of top, top picks. Those players turn into Kane & Toews or McDavid and Drai. 2-3 years of 15th overall picks doesn’t solve problems, it just pushes them.

The timing of the Fabbro and Lanky extensions makes me wonder if they were trying to move them, and then gave an extension when the price wasn’t right

Glad we got him back but kind of surprised he’s not testing the market to see if he can get a starting job next season. Good for us though!

Good sign. Can’t go wrong with a solid back up
