Absolute peak dominance probably Malkin. Career Ovie.

  2. Ovi.

He’s the one in the record books.

  3. tonypenthouse

    Con Smyth Malkin was unbelievable.

  4. scottsuds

Ovi, gonna break an unbreakable record….

  5. shittybillz

Ovy and Malkin were in their prime from about 2006-2012. In that timeframe I give the edge to Ovy. Malkin was great but Ovy was a special force. As they’ve gotten older I’d still take Ovy solely for his undying goal production.

Kuch from 2018-now is better at pure point production but I still would take 2008 Ovy over even 2019 kuch.

  6. short-and-ugly

This is probably way closer than I’d like as a caps fan but why is points per game the stat we’re using?

  7. Kuch will drop considerably in the next 10 years. Malkin is a centre. Ovi hands down.

I’m gonna get downvoted to oblivion and most of you aren’t going to even see this reply, but…

Alexander Ovechkin is about to break Gretzky’s record for goals scored. Look at the league he’s played in and compare it to what NHL was in the 80s. Comparatively Gretzky played in an amateur league.
To do what Ovechkin’s done puts him on top. In my book he’s the best hockey player to ever lace them up. And no, I don’t like Putin or Russia. In fact, fuck both Putin and Russia. And kinda fuck Ovi. But he’s the greatest of all time.

  9. Relegated22

Silly. Ovie will end up with 900 goals which is more than these two will have combined or within 50.

  10. Brodieboyy

They’re all talented in different ways, ovi’s the best goal scorer, kucherov is the best passer, malkin is well rounded and probably the best in his prime. If I could have one on my team to win a stanley cup right now I’d take kaprizov who got snubbed from this list.

  11. Practical-Manner-164

Ovechkin. Less talented team, same results.

Have any analytics people tried to weigh the value of goals vs primary assists vs secondary assists(like a goal worth three, primary assist worth two, and a secondary assist worth one, or some other ratio)? Obviously on individual plays it varies greatly, but would be interesting to see a rough estimate.

  13. touringwizard

Ovi and Malkin both brought a physical game that I don’t think kuch has every brought. I’d have to go with Ovi points per game aren’t as important as goals per game

  14. JuanMichelBasquiat

idk if he’s the most talented but Malkin is so underrated

  15. Dontdothatfucker

    Hmmmmm “talented??”

Ovi. Man has a goal scoring propensity that is ACTUALLY once in a gen.

Best player may not be the same story

  16. subway576

    It’s Ovi.

Goals are the most important stat in hockey. Not points. Not assists. Goals.

Ovechkin is the best player at the most important statistic in the game.

  17. imaybeacatIRl

    Career? Ovechkin.

Dude is two years away from being the all-time goal scorer in the history of the NHL.

  18. Shiny_Mew76

Ovi will go down as the greatest goal scorer of all time. Maybe behind Mike Bossy, but that’s very debatable because we never got to see Bossy play a full 20 year career.

Malkin and Crosby will go down as one of the all time great duos, and 2 of the greatest to ever do it. I actually think Malkin is a little underrated, probably because he is overshadowed by Crosby. Both are generational talents.

Not entirely sure where Kucherov came into this discussion, but he is an absolutely amazing player

McDavid in 15 years: Uhh. Ever heard of my multiple 150-200 point seasons? What about my 2nd all time scoring record only behind Gretzky? Only the 2nd player to ever reach 2k points.

Jokes aside, all of them are amazing players, and all will undoubtedly be in the hall of fame!

  19. Legitimate-Syrup-894

The most talented is Malkin, but Ovi is by far the better shooter

  20. pentross

Ovi and it’s not even close. 820 goals vs 470, and on a worse team almost always

  21. Kingzton28

Points per game is fine, until you take into account the games OVI has played dwarfs what the other 2 have played.

  22. roscomikotrain

    Gino.
    Total boss.
    Simple- but still a boss.

    Overshadowed by #87

  23. Jigs444

Anybody who wouldn’t take Malkin or Kucherov over Ovi is a bonafide dumb dumb.

  24. Grady__Bug

Once again, Malkin being held off the top 100 players list was disrespectful.

  25. Khripchook

Ovechkin. He’s the only one of these guys that may be the best of all time at something. Also no one will ever refer to any era as the Malkin or Kuch era. Ovechkin (and Crosby) have an era and were the face/s of the league for a long time.

  26. Material_Mall_5359

    Rousek. Dude is 2.00 PPG.

  27. NufeeFlatlander

For me it’s Ovi based on goal scoring prowess alone, and consistency at doing it. Anyone who challenges the Great one in any major statistical points category has to be in the GOAT conversation.

    Also, Goals >> Assists.
