Those 80’s Oilers were a wagon!!

  2. As a goalie that never had to wear leather gear, I’m in awe of those that played with gear constructed of that stuff that would gain 10lbs+ of water during a game.

  3. Imagine Grant Fuhr with today’s equipment and goaltending techniques.

I met him when he was a rookie and I was 12, he was doing an autograph session at a store near my house and it was empty, so us kids and him hung out there for 15 minutes in silence.

That weekend I used my allowance money and bought a jersey with a vinyl logo and numbers with #1 FUHR for $40. *All* of my saved money went to it (allowance was $5/wk). He changed his number to 31 by January. The guy at the store said he could put a 3 in front of the 1, but even as a 12 year old I knew that’d look stupid, so I left it as is.

I look back now and realize Grant was 19 years old at the time.

He was so awesome, love that dude.

His career stats don’t do him justice.

He could allow a lot of goals, but he would never allow the goal that would tie the game.

As an Oilers fan, you always felt calm knowing he was in net when his team had the lead.

I wish the NHL went back to mandating this size of goalie equipment

Cool excellent picture. A pure classic.

I bet he still hates Nick Kypreos

It’s crazy how small and tight the equipment was then. That blocker is huge! Flat as a board!
