Un regard sur les Predators de Nashville après avoir raté les Playoffs 2023

On s’attendait à ce qu’ils finissent au moins dans une place de joker, mais cet espoir a été mis au repos au cours de la dernière semaine de la saison. 1. Just missing the playoffs is pretty much worse than finishing in the bottom 12. They have no playoffs and no chance to draft Bedard. Its lose-lose.
And it has no impact on next year.

  2. One thing I think is worth noting is that all those injuries came at the same time. After the deadline the preds were playing without any of their veteran forwards and without Josi and still came close only playing young talent.

  3. I think if Nashville could move Duchene/Johansen/McDonagh, they would. But those high cap hits and the term left on them combined with their ages and health concerns make it borderline impossible, without sacrificing draft picks to facilitate a trade.

  4. I really like some of the play by some of the young guys after the deadline, like Evangelista and Tomasino. I also think that Barrie could help their PP maybe, he actually think he fit in quite well. They might turn it around quite quickly, though some of those top guys need to have better seasons

  5. I think Nashville is a team that probably isn’t gonna be big game hunting this off-season. With the draft picks the have at their disposal, it seems better to draft and develop rather than throwing everything for the idea of a cup run.

  6. I really hope they figure it out next year, I mean there is a lot to like about this team. It's a shame how everybody got hurt, I hope for everyone to recover completely. And: I want to see Josi win a cup with Nashville!

  7. I am excited for next season If the veterans can stay healthy. Having Evangelista and Novak in the lineup will be a big plus.

  8. Nashville missed Playoffs because they started Season Early Outside of L'Merica. That caused them to lose that game against Kings playing Cal who was not good. They were up like 3 goals to 1 or something but ran out of gas. Kraken better than expected was another factor though Calgary would have edged them out from those overseas games. Sharks were really at bottom of barrel until they kinda shook that off. Kings start season in Australia so will likely miss Post Season just to play Jordan Spence who is 5 feet ;). I'm glad they missed out as the short goalie is always injured. JOsi nearly had 100 points. Had two players with 40 or more goals. Yet many were playing from protocol lists so AHL or ECHL players padded a lot of stats for players :).

  9. The Nashville Admirals did pretty well at the end of the season. Hopefully many of those guys will have a nice run in the Calder Cup playoffs here in Milwaukee.

  10. The question for next season is who will be playing on which lines and for a few that were starters at the beginning of this season, will they be traded or in Milwaukee? Evangelista, Glass, Parssinen, Tomasino and Novak proved that if they get top 6 minutes, they can produce.

On defense, Barrie should be top four and would be great point man for the second shift of a powerplay behind Josi. Foote does add some much needed size. Carrier was injured twice this season so can he stay healthy. Too many questions to address but we shall see how Trotz navigates all of this as the new GM.

  11. Not many instantly recognizable names outside of Saros by the end yet they played rather well. Not just in a spoiler role, either.

Their draft cupboard is well-stocked. They hopefully will have their big names recovered by Autumn. Despite missing the Playoffs they’re in pretty good shape to succeed again, esp. w/ Trotz making decisions.

  12. Sad we missed the playoffs. But, we didn’t really deserve to be there. Saros was the only 1/2 reason why. I am super glad we got our youths some NHL ice experience. Let go Preds!

  13. I think they need some sort of retooling. I'm not sure what that looks like exactly.

That Saros contract is 👌 he's going to get a big raise

  14. Nashville has 13 picks in the 2023 draft. Thank you David Poile.
New GM Barry Trotz has all the ingredients to cook something good for next year. it will be interesting to watch

  15. The curse of Matt Duchene continues! With the exception of a brief playoff run with Columbus, every team he has been on either improved after he left (Colorado) or fell (Ottawa and Nashville) after he arrived.

  16. Upon further review, that name is pretty creepy. At least they're not the Hollywood predators, then it wouldn't matter what kind of critter was on their jersey.

  17. As the decline has been slow and slight; I think Trotz reverses it but it takes a few seasons again to get back up to being a contender. A very "wide-V" shaped recovery, if you will.

  18. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Buffalo dam they came close one point out

  19. What happens to Nashville…

There is what needs to happen: More heads need to roll from management and from vet players because the new guys coming in need to change the future of what Nashville is. In the presser, it was basically described that if Nashville didnt have so many injuries, they would not have called up guys from Milwaukee as it was not on their radar to do so. This is absurd because those rookies are what kept the team afloat and a lot of them kept it interesting. Plus they were all fantastic in Milwaukee and their chemistry together is showing in Nashville. Karl Taylor needs to come up and continue his growth with these players that trust him.

What should not happen: They stay with the same mentality of their system and trying to force players into that system. Tolvanen is that example. Ekholm is that example.

What will happen: Probably more of the same Poile moves… but I really hope Trotz changes this whole org upside down a bit.

  20. Fun part: expected goals-wise, Preds were supposed to be something like 3.5 goals for and 3.5 goals against.

But they couldn't score. At all. No Forsberg, no Josi, no career-year Duchene – that was part of the problem, sure, but even with them in the lineup, scoring was still a problem.

But Saros was saving 0.6 goals above expected, and Lankinen was almost as good when he was playing. So, goalies kept the team in the race. xG saved above expected are second in the league. Only Bruins were better in this department.
