@Avalanche du Colorado

Now they have to get “real men.” Nothing like the size of Malgin or Girard, big guys like Vegas has. Gone: EJ, JJ, Eller, Nieto, Malgin, Cogliano, Newhook. Keep JT if the $ is not too high. Rodrigues, same like JT. I would keep Meyers, but he has to be more physical.
And of course Girard must go. They have to get bigger and more physical, Jacob Trouba style. If you hit someone, that guy must feel it for days. They have to rebuild half of the defense and offensive lines 2, 3, and 4.

  2. If I were a part-time Avs fan, I'll probably be upset. But seeing the toll it took on key players and business aspects of players needing to move on, I'm fine as a die-hard. For what they went through with this season and the playoff, I'm kind of ok with it. The hockey gods weren't nice, and to win back to back would be a story of the ages. Out of the cloud, you have seen some incredible feats, but you can see they weren't playing at the level of Avs hockey we were used to, it like seeing your pet getting tire and sick, but ur hoping for the best but u know it's time. It's not a retool. it's just reset and much needed rest. The core are locked up, and younger players who are use of playing Avs hockey will be one year old. This year was the "what else" year of hockey, but sharing 3 players with career years was pretty special and will give Avs something to build off next year. "What else" and "What if" kind years hard. Great content in helping us get through this

  3. observations based on your conversation. If EJ wants to come back, my guess is that they would sign him to a league minimum deal in that 7th D role. Annunen could really use another year starting in the AHL to really try and grab the reigns down there. I bet that they keep Frankie and then let him walk as a free agent after next year. I don't know if Compher will get that big money deal as a free agent and might be back at about the same price. I do get the sense that E-Rod would come back at a good price if they're willing to give him some term, say 3-4 years at 2.5 mil or so. I am betting that both Cogs and Helm retire.

As for the 2C spot. One of the things that you guys didn't touch on is that the Avs still have their first round pick for this draft, and because of the first round loss that will end up being in the 23-25 range rather than later if they had advanced. That increases the value of that pick on the trade market. I think their first choice would be to work a deal ahead of the draft to trade that pick and maybe a B prospect for either an RFA or someone with term that they can afford to try and fill that role. If that doesn't work out, then look to a trade around free agency time, and that could get really interesting. You guys tossed around Girard as a trade piece, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it was Toews. He only has one year left on his deal, they'll have a chance to discuss terms with his agent around free agency so they'll know if they can afford him or not, and he would bring a much more substantial return on the trade market if they don't think they can meet his demands. Keep in mind that he's going to be 30 next season, so how long do you want to commit to him? Also, what does Byram's new deal look like?

  4. Any sting has faded a lot today, for many of the reasons stated + in the comments.

A lot of positives to take from an absolute battle of a season. Better to dip out now rather than get swept by the Stars and have the media jump on that instead.

  5. Man i hate how accurate my comparison early in the season was about how similar Seattle looked like to the 03 Wild lol i may have doomed us to eventually lose in 7 to them. I apologize lol

  6. I don't feel as bad as previous years mainly because I knew this team was on about 65% with all the injuries and wear and tear. This team was no where near 100%

  7. I believe that EJ will be back as a 7D/1 million ,,, JT will be gone ,,, keep EROD (he won’t cost much) at #3 centre and he can go up and down as you need him too,,, as for Sammy I believe he’s gone too for a #2 C unless Landy isn’t back the I have a long shot, with what’s happening in Pitt I believe Crosby is an option specially with Mack being so close to him

  8. This is why I absolutely HATE one guy making such a boatload of money. Does Nate “deserve” it? Of course. However, with a hard cap, it hamstrings your roster.
I’m glad this season is over. The Avs didn’t need to be swept in the 2nd round. Plus there’s a risk of even more injury. At this point, I truly fear for Landeskog’s career. Something feels really shady with this whole scenario. I hope he and the Avs are truly honest and not just hopeful. BTW, that’s $7 million.

  9. Sucks we fought so hard to win the division and get first rounded. Get rid of Manson he is too slow for our game pace. Resign JT for 1 year

  10. We easily win the series against Seattle with nuke in the line up…. Maybe even Manson. We have alot of ? Markes for next year I'm worried about what happens in the off season…

  11. Also needed a rest from games ending at fricking MIDNIGHT fer cryin' out loud! Kept scheduling us for the graveyard shift, and even then getting pushed later, and the bizarre channel roulette…
(I just wanted to complain about something unimportant. It's a skill.)

  12. I've been lucky to be able to move on from eliminations pretty easily and this year was no different. It sucked but all things considered, they very much need the rest.

The UFA situation could be a bloodbath. I think EJ's done. Love the guy and I disagree, his loyalty to the company earned him a spot on the team's Mount Rushmore. Compher's probably gone. Eller was fairly impressive, same with ERod. Byram probably stays. Newhook? I don't know. I really don't know. This year was his year to prove himself and I just don't think he has it yet. I hate to say it because he's awesome, but he may need different pastures. Sammy G may be gone too. Helmer, Cogs, and Jack Johnson may retire too. I really hope Frankie stays but I understand where you're coming from, it may be time. I don't know about replacing him with Annunen though, I don't think he's ready. The other rentals this season can go if needed.

  13. Now that the Avs lost, I’m impressed by all the excuses from every fan of their team! Could it be that the Kraken were simply the better than? Huh. That’s a question worth pondering!

  14. This did not sting me too much this year. There were so many ???'s Start to finish.

  15. If EJ and JJ are potentially gone, do you really see them trading Sammy? I see the financials but your D core is about to change regardless and do you want to sacrifice the tried and true in the system?

  16. G is 24yrs old (5yrs younger than Toews), cost controlled for four more years, and trusted by the staff. They can resign Toews in a year but can they afford him at 7+ million a year? Doubt it. He has earned a big payday and i want another team paying top dollar as he gets older and his play declines. He will be 31ish when his new contract starts. Being able to keep Mikko gets alot harder when he gets slightly more than what Pasta recently signed for (11.25/ year), especially if he adds a few more 50+ goal seasons. They need to sell high and early on Toews, hopefully before this years draft. They need assets to fill out this roster and organization moving forward. They could use some help in the middle six but also have to start considering the ugly reality of who is going to eventually replace Landy. I hope Landy plays out his full contract but he has been dealing with knee issues for three years now and i dont think its going to get easier. They dont have any drafted prospects breaking down the door for a roster spot on the avs next year. They have a couple that might get some games. They just played a game 7 with an ahl defenceman as a 4th line forward and he only got one shift for a total of 41seconds.!?!? That should be an indictment on the development system. They can't draft and develop a 4th line role player?!?! Toews' new team can offer him a longer cntract. They turned two 2nd round picks into a top pair defenceman on a Stanley Cup winning team. An absolute homerun of a trade. They have a chance to expand on it by turning Toews into several assets. A legit 2c? Young high-end prospects or draft capital? Kadri and Bura walked but they had just won the cup so it worked out fine. You can't let that happen with a top pair defenceman. Bo and Makar should be top pair starting next year.

  17. Leave Frankie alone. He's been so faithful to the avs and you're not going to find a better tender for the price that were paying him, he's practically a steal. It'd be hella foolish to get rid of him early, especially this coming season when there is plenty more headaches to deal with in the cap space.

  18. I like the sound of keeping JT for 4.5mil or (ideally) less with a long contract. Based off of his uncharacteristically terrible playoffs performance to cap off his admittedly career year. Does the stability of having a long contract combined with him completely falling off in playoffs despite the career year make up for not getting much of a pay raise? He's also one of the last from the 16-17 disaster, that's gotta count for something, maybe a bit more of a sweetheart deal, right?
