After the Jazz moved to Utah and the NHL said yes to « The Mighty Ducks » I didn’t think anything could be more ridiculous. That would have been, so +1 on the rejection.
If they were ever to be named Blockbusters the only suitable logo would have been the blockbuster video logo.

Huizenga was one of the worst owners and that’s saying something. He had the infamous fire sale after the Marlins won the world series, claiming he had suffered « financial losses » from it. In spite of that, they won a *second* world series in 2003.
Panthers are similar in that regard. They go to a cup final and then go nowhere. Except it took them much longer to get back.

There’s a certain 80s/company softball team vibe to it that I love.
Now Florida’s rivalry with the Net Flickers makes much more sense.
Meanwhile the same league allowed « the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim »… A movie franchise and the only team to break all previous naming conventions by slipping in an adjective and putting the city name last.
Clearly Bettman foresaw the downfall of the VHS/DVD, the rise of streaming, and the continued monopolization of all things entertainment by Disney and bent right over.

This can’t be true
While I do think the NHL went way overboard with animal mascots in the 90’s, Panthers are still better than this.
But I will say the potential dumb phrases, and slogans would’ve been spectacular.
That second logo is one of the most generic logos of all time. I do like a good white/blue/yellow colorway though

Honestly probably for the best given the connotation of that term as it relates to real estate rather than a now defunct movie rental chain.

Huizenga fucking sucked and was one of the biggest reasons the franchise was always underwater. I remember when he would force the team to trade down in the draft to save on signing bonuses. Worst owner in the league. Didn’t get decent ownership till viola bought the team.
