Tampa Bay touched theirs all 3 years they went and won twice. Boston did not touch theirs in 2019 and lost to the Blues. This superstition has been proven wrong many times over, put it to rest.
I really like what Tkachuk said about it: "The last thing that we're going to do is be superstitious about not touching it," Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk said. The first I heard of this superstition was in 1995, when my team (Detroit) celebrated quite a bit with the Campbell Cup, and went on to be swept in the finals.
Two years later, when they won the West again, Captain Steve Yzerman picked up the Cup and briefly held it towards the fans so they could applaud, but then the team left the ice quickly after that. They didn't go as far as a "to touch" rule, but they clearly weren't going to have a massive celebration with the Campbell Cup this time. That would have to wait for the Stanley Cup.
It worked, big time! They went on to sweep the Flyers in the finals, and then sweep the Capitals in the next year's finals. No team has won the finals in a four-game sweep since.

They have Alec Martinez on their team. I'm sure they heard everything about winning a Cup from him including the WCF champs never touching the whatever that thing is called.
Not a fan of Panthers, but that swagger of not caring, is what got them to the cup. After watching every game in-full after round one, the Panthers care nothing about superstition and, in fact, draw their power from nay-sayers, doubters, and busting myths. Panthers were toughened up by a tougher conference, too. They will be ready to prove superstitions wrong. Ironically, I wish good luck to Vegas….. the Panthers won't need it, but Vegas will.
