Now the resentment comes out for Dubas’ failure to win a Cup! So classic.
I wish Dubas all the best, can't wait to see what he cooks up in Pittsburgh.
I think being in a less stressful environment, he's going to see a lot of success.
Are Leaf fans this nagging? Geez.
Well, you took the time out of your day to upload a 22min video to character assassinate the hockey Maven? “How dare you, how dare you Sir attack the hockey Maven’s integrity?!” Or maybe you just don’t like old people! He is 91 years old & has forgotten more hockey than you & I will ever know. Yeah, until Dubas actually wins 1 SC or maybe 3 Stanley Cups? I can't take him seriously, sorry. (At least he did get the Leafs out of the first round this season) The Dude was getting paid a lot of money by the Toronto Maple Leafs to be a caricature of a GM on television. Getting caught on TV saying the f-bomb & pouting like a child over a goal that wasn’t a goal in the skybox is classic general managing right there! (Yeah know… the more writing I’m doing about Kyle? The more I’m thinking 🤔 the hockey Maven is right) I’m guessing Dubas learned to behave like that in public with the cameras on him from Lou Lamoriello? Also, that Dude wants it multiple ways. 1, He wants to be a GM. 2, He wants to get paid like a GM. 3. Without the pressures of being a GM and finally the 4th thing he doesn’t want his family to be in the spotlight like a GM. Lol, Huh? 🤔 Awesome if that the case it was a brilliant idea to be the next & newest GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League. (Good luck with that) Wait… that’s a good thought process. “If you really don’t want your family to be under the spotlight, ungrateful and unhappy.”Maybe you should have thought about being an AHL GM like Chris Lamoriello
if the American League Hockey League until your kids go away too college? Just some friendly advice. Because let’s be honest: Pittsburgh is not a hockey town. It’s ya know… a non-traditional hockey town. 😂 Lol, lol Oh, thank you, Pittsburg for opening the door for us NY Isles & Florida Panthers fans.
Best wishes to Dubas on his new job.
leaf fans are trash
Dubas was bad at his job and that's all it is. Made bad trades and moronic signings. The leafs have 1 pick in the first 2 rounds for the next 4 years. A Tavares contract that is not movable. Signed 2 goalies with injury issues. The Leafs are a sinking ship Marner or Nylander are going to be traded within the month and Matthews will either be traded by the deadline or will get nothing for him when he leaves after his contract is up.
Pittsburg is welcome to him
You heard it here folks, Shannon talked Dubas into it. 😉
Personally….I think Dubas was talking with Pittsburg before his first press conference (in Toronto). I also think he told that going forward in TO, he was not going to be in full control. Further, I believe Pittsburg was offering a higher position and more control of hockey operations. Also, he was likely seeing that his stay in Toronto may only be another year or two max, if he was not able to get far enough into the playoffs. So why not just ask for too much so they fire him and move his family to Pittsburgh and settle the kids for at least 5 years.
Shannon you also didn't see the closed door meetings the day before the press confrence the contract demands after it.
Your Fired!
Shanney hung Dubois out to dry, plain and simple. I wish Dubois nothing but success in his future hockey endeavors. Sadly this is going to come back and bite The Maple Leafs !!
I do not agree. I think dubas had his mind set. He wanted a president like role. He couldnt get it in toronto. He already knew everything about Pittsburg cause this obviously has been going for a while. Yes he is a liar and hes just seeking his benefit and not the toronto maple leafs benefit.
People blamed Gaudreau’s wife for him leaving the Flames too
Used to like Pittsburgh – Not any many. I hope they continue having dismal seasons with Mr Nerd Boy in charge. The NHL isn't moneyball – and I'm surprised it took Toronto so long to get rid of him.
For Toronto and Shanahan this will turn out in the long term to be the best decision he has ever made. His worst decision almost made worse by resigning Dubas is now gone.
As a Columbus fan, I hate the Pens and still do, but it's hard to root against Dubas. He seems like a genuinely good guy.
As a third party to all of this, it's amusing to me that everyone in hockey media/fandom thought the Leafs were mismanaged and clowned on them, but they are all suddenly openly lusting over their available executives, coaches, and potentially core4 players.
I don't really know if I agree with this take… Sounds a lot like you are trying to garner sympathy for Dubas. It seems to me that Dubas, his agent, and the MLSE all agreed on a reasonable extension for Dubas. At some point, Dubas must have decided other hockey clubs would pay him more- so he wanted to walk back on his agreement with MLSE. In order to leverage the organization, he threw his wife and kids under the bus. After the MLSE refused his late counteroffer, he walked back entirely on the whole, "my wife and kids are stressed" rhetoric and claimed to be 100% with Toronto. At that point, the Leafs hands were tied. There's a right and a wrong way to negotiate with your boss- Dubas did it wrong and all of the support he gets from fans and the media is concerning to me. It sets a dangerous precedence- that, you can negotiate in good faith, come up with a reasonable outcome, then change your mind. How do you go into business with people like that? It's completely unprofessional…
Politics…a dirty, part-time job…but it pays well.
"That's how you end up single." Haha. Thank you. This is the truth. I cringe at all of the comments about people thinking it is ridiculous to consult your wife on life decisions.
Only Toronto fans would be this ridiculous.
Dubas did the right thing in taking the job in Pittsburgh but it happened because he publicly showed lack of determination and will to continue to be GM of the Leafs.
Dude used his mental health and his family as leverage. Good riddance. Best of luck in Pittsburgh, he will fit right in.
the waddel comparison was fun to hear as a Canes fan, I think hes a very talented manager who was in a bad spot in Toronto tbh
I'm so excited to have Dubas on board. I do think he's really gonna help us. The pens situation isn't as bad as people make it out to be
Most of the Leafs are there because of Dubas except Rielly, Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Robertson, and Liljegren
I’m so happy rn LGP! 🐧
Not offering a new contract = Fired. Just more words.
Take your Copium Leaf fans. 💊
Jim Carrey almost found out how far Cam Neely's rage will go!
The people that are upset with this are 12 yo's….. Who gives a shit. Move on ppl
Another great video! Hope he turns the Penguins into a playoff team again
Love this hire
About 4 years too late
Excellent! I have been hearing so much trash about the Toronto press conference and how Dubas betrayed Toronto. You have looked at both media presentations with intelligence and no bias. Well done. I am Canadian, and a strong Pittsburgh fan. I have no idea how this will look at the end of next season, but I see Dubas as a breath of fresh air and someone who has come into the job with aspirations that match those of the team, in particular the core players. Win. I look forward to seeing how this plays out. Thank you for this!
How on Earth, Darcy Regier doesn’t have a top level NHL job is just ridiculous. 😂
let me say dubass is nowehere near as smart as he portrays himself as. Just bcause he has a degree , wears glasses and uses vocabulary like "recalibrate" to impress everybody all the time doesnt means hes a genius. He the exact opposite. Pittsburgh is really foolish to go so hard after him like hes their savior.Let me say anybody with a decent even general knowledge of the nhl and its players could do a FAR better job then dubas did in toronto.Building a soft team with no grit and top heavy with 4 player who eat up a huge portion of the payroll is just plain stupid. That is not a balanced team…They had a great offensive team without tavares but instead of addressing defense he gets tavares. Oh and let me add you need character and integrity to succeed in any wak of life. That stunt marner and nylander pulled when the leafs offered them fair market value then they sat out of camp…..would have made me dismiss them immediately ….but this moron insread gives them a huge contract. Tavares flat out lied to islander management..and dubas signs him to a huge contract yet again. THis guy is a total moron who presents himself as a intellect.
Shit! Just typical Leaf fan stupidity! Kyle's wife had enough of Athletic writers dumpster diving in their trash!
Welcome back
As a Flyers fan…… THANK YOU Pittsburgh!! This man NEVER WON anything!!
He was fired, what did they expect for him to just not work for the rest of his life?
It’s nice to see a common sense take. Shanny has his own expectations and prerogative, but at the same time Dubas didn’t owe them anything after he was let go. Pens ownership can move forward with their own hires rather than the friction with what they inherited.
