Granlund sticks out here as an obvious interesting case. You really wonder how he’d look with a full season in the Pens’ middle-six with trustworthy goaltending behind him and perhaps slightly better finishing luck.
Overall, seems like this really paints goaltending/finishing as our problem at 5-on-5 last year. I mean, all eight defensemen were above the 50th percentile on xG%, and the majority of them were above the 80th(!) percentile.

If I’m reading this right, Granlund just had absolute crap luck? Or is the discrepancy from xGoals to his actual points percentile reflective of a talent gap?

Woof, Carter. And poor snake-bitten Teddy. I genuinely didn’t realise Granlund played 21 games; you could’ve told me he had only played 2 or that he had played 60 and I would’ve had to believe you because I don’t recall anything he did. I just remember Bob or Mears calling him a « former Predator » once and it feeling weird.

Wait…..
Jeff Carter is BAD!?!??

As a reminder, stats like this are often misleading because they don’t account for matchups. A player may have a poor goals against because they’re playing against other teams’ top lines, or vice versa.

Surprised Dumoulin doesn’t have more red. Having said that, his time as a Penguin should be over. Can’t bring him back, even cheaper.

Of course that’s Sid’s xG% percentile.
