Wish him the best in Colorado but it’s gonna be weird without him.

  2. scottydanger22

Holy shit they actually did it! Wishing him all the best!

This is good on so many reasons.

Basically means our top 6 C’s will be glass and Novak going forward. GMBT has accepted this team badly needed hard restructure/ rebuilding. (Although I formerly believed he was already going to do that the moment he got hired). I love Joey, still do, wish him all the best and hopes he finds his game in a better role, but man, this a great day for preds hockey.

Best of luck to RyJo. He will forever be the cover of my “We’re Vibin” playlist

Just couldn’t get over that low 60s point hump during the season but was pretty effective in the playoffs. I wish him the best, but I’m not going to miss his invisible big man thing he had going at times. Always felt like he had more to give.

  6. He’s been pretty stagnant for us, so I’m not mad at this. Hopefully career-wise this will be a good jolt back to relevancy.

  7. I’ll miss the controller disconnect

Goddammit I am going to stop buying jerseys. The only one I have that’s not “gone” is Peks

ETA: somebody tell me how to feel about the Galchenyuk piece.

  9. excessive_coughing

What an off-season for the Preds. I have no idea what’s going to happen next season, but I’m excited regardless

  10. Infraction_

Not sure how to feel about this one. 4M for Joey to not play for us is a bit steep. Curious to see what they do with the cap space. ROR anyone?

He was one of the best community players in the organization. His work off the ice was really impactful and he was amazingly kind to my kids after their school shooting and had jerseys brought up to our seats. Really amazing guy who cares about the city. Happy for him, Avs are very competitive and I hope to see him kick ass over there! Thanks for the years RyJo!

I…….. do not think his contract is nearly bad enough to justify this unless we’re getting a pick or something. Galchenyuk stinks and barely plays

edit: eh nvm I guess. more playing time for the kids and I didn’t realize Galchenyuk was a ufa

I remember when Galchenyuk was a hot name and people here wanted to trade for him. Doesn’t seem like his career has gone the way people hoped since he was drafted in the top 3. Is this just a salary dump trade or does he still have something left?

  14. emeraldraf

He was my favorite preds forward and it sucks he’s not here but this is definitely the move to make even if it makes a division opponent stronger. Hope his career is good.

With the cap space Preds already had in hand I have to assume there may be another move coming. If not, why not just ride out the final 2 years of the deal?

  16. MegaMemoryZook

Would have liked a late pick thrown in there but whatever, it’s fine. I’d rather dump RyJo than Duchene.

See ya Joey – always has been one of my favorite players. I read a crazy stat about him the other day. The Preds have won 7 playoff series – 5 of them were with Joey as our 1C.

Meanwhile this is an amazing trade for Colorado. At only $4m, Joey is going to be one of the best depth centers in the NHL. The change of scenery should light a fire under him and Colorado is an org that is in win-now mode.

Honestly this may be a win for Colorado. I would’ve hoped for a pick in return.

  18. DBTornado

Thanks for everything you gave this team, Joey. I’m sad to see ya go, but I’m excited to watch Trotzy rebuild this team.

Funny story from my 1st ever Preds game. I was down by the glass for warm-ups and these very tipsy young ladies were a couple seats down taking pictures and having a good time. They all turn their backs to the glass to take a selfie. Joey sees this, gets down reeeeeally low, skates up very slow, and then just fucking rockets a puck into the glass behind their heads which of course made them jump and scream. I thought Joey, Josi, and PK were going to piss themselves laughing on the ice.

  19. IamSasquatch

The move makes sense, but I’m sad to see Joey go 🙁 Best of luck to the boy. Keep on vibin’. I’ll need to get a new jersey I suppose…

  20. TheKid_BigE

FINALLY!!!!! IT FINALLY HAPPENED IM SO HAPPY!!!!

  21. IllCurrency3998

This move makes sense on many levels. We get 4 million in cap space. We needed opportunities to give to our youth and Joey was a good player but not great who was taking those opportunities keeping young guys from growing within our program. I love Joey and he will be missed but it’s the right move for the organization

  22. Competitive_Papaya_8

Wow, I’m gonna miss him on the Preds, but I live in Colorado so I’ll cheer for him if I go to a game

  23. TeriyakiSoldier

I will never forget him giving Toews the forearm in the sweep. I’ll always believe if he hadn’t gotten hurt, that final with the Penguins goes at least 7 games.

  24. swallowassault

Huh. I think that’s all I gotta say about it. I know he was paid a lot for a guy who barely put up top 6 numbers but great team character and will be missed. Then again it is a business at the end of the day so does make sense and his value was zero. But knowing our luck let’s see him dominate at colorado.

  25. Birdhawk

It’s cap dump PLUS compensatory draft pick. Galchenyuk was on a one year league minimum deal. If he gets a deal somewhere else we get a draft pick. That’s how we ended up drafting Shea Weber when Poile traded for soon to be FA Ed Belfour.
