I live in Canada. I have yet to see in my 40 years an ad with a Leaf…sorry but its Ove or Sid or McDavid…get over ur self.
To sign a player like Pasta or MacKinnon in Toronto for their same net income, you're looking at $14-15 million contracts if it was in Ontario. Most of the top teams have three players making more net income than any Leaf. If Nylander signs for $9 million in Tampa Bay, he'd be making more than any Leaf.
Well, the good thing is Dubas gave Marner a NMC for the last two years of that horrific contract. So Marner has all the leverage, can’t trade him.
I hope BT is better at contract negotiations that Dubas.

Trade him , get rid of him. Typical euro player that turns it on in the last year of his contract , then coasts until he's due again. The Leafs have enough gutless weak players on their team , losing one wont hurt them.

As Vegas has shown and players like OREILLY A CUP winner and great TWO way player did NOT want to return to play for Toronto anylonger ! That should say it ALL ! Its says more about the players in that locker rm and that individuality in hockey does NOT spell TEAM ! For him any amount of MONEY couldn't fix that HUGE issue in that rm ! The cap will be increasing significantly over the next 3-4 years…Nylander's current $6.9M comp is now viewed as a relative bargain…he's in the prime earning years of his career…may want to be a bigger, more highly paid star player elsewhere vs 4th on the Core-4 totem pole in media/fan pressure-cooker Toronto. I'm actually not a huge Nylander fan, but NHL hockey is a bottom-line business and its star players shouldn't be vilified for trying to get the best contract deal possible!

Before signing Tavares, Dubas should have traded Matthews (or don’t sign Tavares).
Now it’s time to let go of Matthews. It would solve all the problems.
Matthews might be the best player in the league, put it the best ever… Well Gretzky got traded and never won the cup after leaving Edmonton; Lindros never touched the cup. Both the Oilers and the Avs won the cup after trading those two super stars.
Matthews scored 4 goals in his first NHL game, which is great, it’s awesome, it’s unthinkable, it’s one of those unbeatable record… Leafs lost to Ottawa in OT that might.
