I would've been happy to see Tuna come back but I do want to see the young guns get a chance. I read an article from a Slovakian news paper that said he wanted a 2 year deal and teams are only giving one year, that's why he's holding out. So, I'm good with him not returning I just don't want to see him in Pittsburgh they're literally Devils 2.0. They've got 4 former Devils already.
It's funny with the NHL 24 they asked Jack who should be on the cover and he said Kucherov. Lol.
1) It really is surprising that Tatar wasn't signed quickly by someone at this point, but maybe he's just being very particular about where he's willing to go. He may not want to relocate far so he's hoping to get a deal with the Pens or someone else relatively close by. NJ definitely does not need him, though. He played great but this roster is loaded as it is even if they were able to afford him.
2) IF Hellebuyck were to be signed to NJ, the wisest thing would be to wait to see how the current goalie tandem does this season. As much as people complain about the Devils' goaltending, they seem to forget that Vitek lead this team to a franchise wins record but the number of games he played in the regular season and his minimal playoff experience is what hurt him in the end. There's a better than even chance that he's going to be even better this season with Schmid getting more games to lighten his workload to keep both of them fresher going into the playoffs, and both having better playoff experience like the rest of the roster. It could very well turn out that Hellebuyck and the pricetag he'll come with won't be needed at all. If VV isn't getting the job done, then it's a different story, but right now I really don't see any need to bend over backwards to get Hellebuyck in NJ.

In the last 5 minutes you mentioned Hughes not being marketable. To me he reminds Kimi Räikkönen of hockey in a sense that he really doesn't like talking to media and he talks completely unfiltered. It just happens to be that people absolutely worship individuals that break the norm and Jack Hughes might become EXTREMELY popular just because of that.
Would love to have Tatar back, but doing so A) blocks a spot for Holtz/Clarke/Foote/Lazar and B) reduces the Devils TDL cap flexibility for a trade to get that missing piece. I don't think the tradeoff is worth it, even though he scored 20 for us last year.

The same people saying why is Tatar still on the team were the same ones yelling "Fire Lindy"! Replace those 20 goals for what you paid Tatar – good luck! What is he 32? That's an old dog? It's a mistake not to sign him. Injuries happen and that 3rd and 4th line aren't that good. We'll see 🙂

Tatar isn't coming back, not after they signed Nosek. I know it's only a million but there are too many bottom 6 veterans clogging the path for homegrown talent now. I feel that the goal for this year is to see what we have with Vanecek and Schmid…they actually might work out for 1/2 the cost of Hellebuyck and if they decide V has to go, they give up nothing signing H in the off-season and can negotiate a decreasing payment contract to match his decreasing role as Schmid and Daws increase.
